My 04 has developed the same problem of late. Cold idle is around 14k, then after warming up it's idling at around 1.7k. Before the problem started cold idle was about was 1.4-1.5k and warm idle 1.2k. I've given it a good spray of WD40 and wiggled the plunger about. It seems to be moving freely now, but the problem persists.
I notice that if I pull the plunger against the spring, the revs drop to around 1k. So I guess that's the true warm idle. So how comes the warm idle increases to 1.7k? Is it the fast idle plunger at fault or is the throttle position sensor playing up?

Wos wrong wiv me bike?

Following ET's (a big thank you is in order) clear and easy to follow instructions, I took off the cold start mechanism today while the sun was shining. The stainless steel pin was indeed stuck solid and so I tapped it free and polished it, before copper greasing it and reassembling the unit. All went according to plan except the bloody manifolds refused to slip onto the air inlets and the frustration caused me to fly into a hissy fit. Oh, and I noticed that the airbox flap mod had been rectified, probably two services ago if I think about it
So I've deactivated it again and I'll see if it makes a difference when I next go for a ride.
I've not had time to give it a run out, so I don't know how succesful it was. I'll do that first thing tomorrow. Oh and thanks to Treadman as well for his help.
