carb parts from Allens came next day, wow

started stripping carbs down to replace emulsion tubes, needles and main jet

clip was on #1 groove which is the lowest/weakest setting.

do you think i should go for the middle setting?

Are the needles standard ? and on no.1 clip position Drewps ?    I've always used factory settings when working on carbs and adjusted from there if need be.  Never had to adjust needle clip position from factory setting (middle) yet.

the setting I had was the top one when taken off the carbs. I suspect that because of worn needle or emulsion tube, it was moved to lower the needle to compensate for this.

I'm going with the middle this time

damn you PO, the left needle was on the #1 groove and the right in the middle, #2.

I've been running that for 7 years now.

just the float height to set and the rain to stop before fitting to the bike

Its ali

damn you PO, the left needle was on the #1 groove and the right in the middle, #2.

just the float height to set and the rain to stop before fitting to the bike

Its alive, had a lot of trouble getting the right float height set. it was windy and affected the levels.

balanced the carbs and it pulls really well between 2 - 4k revs.
still have a slight blip at 2.5k revs but nothing major and i'm being picky.

The only thing that is bugging me is I had t raise the tickover right in to get 1200 revs, it won't go any further clockwise.

Try fettling the balance screw, you might get the tickover much higher.

carbs are balanced, i suppose i could fettle the mix screws under the carbs. They are se at 2 full turns out.

it fires right up though and revs really easy

I've not ridden the TDM in many months and with better weather just around the corner tried to get the old girl started.

Bat flattery.. So I ordered the last remaining one in NZ, or so it seems. What a palaver trying to find one. That was on Sunday. Tuesday we went into lock down, Auntie Cindy is being very stern again.

Luckily courier drivers are essential employees so the battery turned up while we were having morning coffee and the new dog attacked the courier for his sterling efforts, poor bugger nearly crapped himself but didn't drop the battery.

Charged the battery and fitted it, the bike fired up after a couple of stabs but only on one cylinder. I let it run for a bit on choke and it finally cleared out, running properly on both cylinders. I'm quite amazed after the length of time it's been sat covered in crap, cold and damp.

I had forgotten that ET needs to help with removing and replacing the battery box. Pretty sure it's part of the test to join Mensa in Japan..

On the bright side, when we are allowed out to play I can get it legal (WoF / MoT) and learn to ride again.

TDM 850 Loud and unusual. CRM 250r Woo hoo! DT 230 Lanza Fiddled with.... Bloody hell, is that legal? GG Randonee AKA "I didn't think that was possible".

Could it be a twisted tickover cable ?  Just seems odd having to screw it fully clockwise to get 1200rpm.  That said, if it works ok might as well leave as be.
