Got the bike MOT'd on Monday, passed with no advisories (thanks Chris @ Heritage Motorcycles). TAX'd on Tuesday, then down to Wicky's final goodbye on Wednesday. Ran like clock work but still testing mileage after carb rebuild but it looks quite good.

Took it for a good blast to dry it off, fun! :good:

Many a TDM owner has had their head turned by a new floosie, only to return to the fold years later at great expense. Good job you kept your TDM in reserve. I just as guilty test riding Tracers, Tiger 900's and Nikkens. Eventually it comes down to what more will this new bike give me that my TDM does not ? In actual fact not very much, certainly not enough to justify vast expense.

No back story Cliff, it's just one or other bike was just being used to hang jackets and stuff on in the garage. Had a blast with two good getaways on it, enjoyed the bringing it back to life period and made a couple of Bob, what's not to like!!
Maybe something else will take it's place beside the TDM.....no plan, but never say never...

Swapped out the blown Dip lamp (HID) for a LED (of the correct focal length).

Pray tell me more about the LED. I could do with a bit more light output.

I removed my dip HID when they became illegal, and tried a LED. It was utter cr*p with light everywhere but on the road. The HID ballast and wiring is still on the bike if I ever felt like breaking some rules between MOTs.

I could offer my spare HID if you wanted to stay outside the rules, and it fitted your kit.

LED is a C6 H3 - you need to make your own 8mm packer so that is retained by the original lamp clip, also measure and adjust the metal base ring to the correct distance (near end of LED to metal base).

Thank you, Favs. That looks like the item I have.

I used a packer between the LED's collar and the spring clamp, but the adjustment you mention is new to me. There was no info in the box about focussing.

I have HID lights and have passed MOT.

So looked at MOT regulations and there is a change  From 22 March 2021, we’re changing these rules so that not all motorcycles and vehicles will fail the MOT test if their halogen headlamp units have been converted to be used with HID or LED bulbs.

Class 1 and 2 motorcycles must not be failed for the defect ‘Light source and lamp not compatible’.

Headlamps must comply with all other requirements of the test and headlamp aim.

So I will continue with excellent light from HID safe knowing I am not breaking law!
