Stripped the ailing water pump, removed the gash seals and prepared for the new one.

The new seal pack comes with a ceramic seal, is that a replacement for the ball bearing which supports the vane shaft ?

I struggled to get the radiator cap off, the seal has swelled so much and jammed in the radiator neck !

I got it out after some force, I doubt it's been relieving any pressure at all. New one sorted

Went out on the bike to do a spot of shopping and it rolled onto 62k miles just as I pulled onto the drive. Must be nearly run in by now.

Ball race in water pump is a separate part to the ceramic seal.
AliGs bike restoration is coming along, so I treated it to some Meguiars Gold Class polish, to give it some love.

The ceramic washer fits on the impeller shaft . :good: Mark.

My failing eyesight when it was dropping dark missed that !

Before removing it, the impeller felt almost like it had seized, it must have cost me 0.341HP at least

I might tackle it today or tomorrow, as it's arrived this morning.

And I'm off work next week. :)

Not ran since june last year, 12.5 volts on the battery, switch on fuel, oil lamp out and she lit up :)

Let her warm up and changed oil and treated to a champion oil filter.

Failed to start her, after two(!) weeks disconnected from the trickle charger. Tried bump starting down all of 1 km. slight decline. Abandoned her outside a shop, alerted the parking people to situation and went to work by Nissan Leaf (bleurgh). Replaced the 2017 Yuasa YT12B-BS with an Exide replacement in rain and dark at 10 p.m. and she fired straight up and came home with me.

Fixed a puncture in the rear tyre on the niner. Picked up a staple yesterday while out for the day. 248 windy miles of twisties for wet riding practice. Out with my friend John on his KTM 890 and another John on his Pan.

It surely ain't! Seems she wants quite a bit of current to fire, not just crank...

Please report back on fitting, link pipes and the list of alternative bikes they fit.

Thank you.

I'm creating a post in the relevant section now...

Finally got around to finding out: Link pipes are oversized, and the left hand one has the wrong angle by several degrees. 38-45mm graphite gaskets take care of the sizing but, you know, the left hand can won't sit right. So, the quest continues for link pipes.

Picked up TDM900 number 2 from Glasgow.

Rides great, apart from the tall standard front wheel and narrow handlebars, which I'll swap over from TDM900 number 1, and then fit the Ohlins to the back.

It's going to be a good machine once it's done :)

Well done now you can now change all the best bits over and flog the other one to restore the beer token stash.

That's the plan Lee.

I've just lost £350 on it, by taking the rear wheel, and the 17" front from my old bike, to a local workshop for new PR5's and wheel bearings.

Well worth it I think. Ready to ride tonight if the sleet stays off  :)

My old bike comes with a nearly new PR5 rear and a nearly new PR4 front. !

I've got to get better at tyre changes. I used to do them but out of practice......

EDIT. I tried replacing the water pump bearing. I was really careful but managed to roll the edge and couldn't be sure of it's integrity, so, out of interest, would an 850 water pump fit ?

Yes, it's identical apart from the top cover.

I found one on eBay from a 3VD with under 20,000 miles. Only £20 plus p&p,

I fitted it and it's working perfectly. So my old bike comes with a renewed water pump now (Am I selling it hard enough yet ? ;)  )

Changed over the bars, heated grips and mirrors from old 900 to new 900.

Put my longest screen on this offset screen mount. It works quite well, looks a bit daft but I think it's a bit too much weight for the fairing to risk cracking it in the corners.

I'll have a think about what works best.

I'm enjoying the power Commander, although, it's evident there's no ignition timing mapping like there is with the Samios ECU. I'll keep it going on the PC for a while, and then swap it back to back with the Samios to see how different they feel.
