Just read the whole of this thread and all of the others on the forum that relate to the same thing - seems like a good idea to have these on the bike. Very good, easy-to-understand tutorial as well good.gif good.gif

I will ask the engineering company round the corner from work if they could machine the bar ends for me (should be in there tomorrow collecting a lorryload of stuff for BOC - normally have to wait a while for the machine parts to be crated up so they might do them 'while I wait unsure.gif ). Won't hurt to ride for a few days without bar ends if they can't. will it...?

Hopefully I can get the guards when I get paid on Friday. And maybe some TDM stickers to go on them.

Talking of which - TDM stickers. Don't know how well they would stick to the guards though.

Who on earth made me get a ZX9R???? I'll get 'em....

Hi lads, Just a note on the suzi hand guards, i ordered a set from mickey oates dealer in glasgow and the staff phoned to saythey had arrived, £25.00 later i was the owner of the said kit, complete as promised with all fittings, Well thats when the problem started i fitted the clutch side first nightmare to get the bar end weight off as it was seized then drilled outlower threaded fixing as per instruction and fitted guard simple, Then on to the throttle side, the bolt supplied was of no use as i would have had to drill out the bike fixing but there dose not seem to be not enough cast to do this so i used a new fixing bolt altogether, I also had to saw a little section from the underside of the guard to avoid fowling ft brake reservior and switch but managed ok, Next task was the bar end weights so off i went to west of scotand engineeringthis morning and nearly keeled over to find out that they have a £20.00 + vat min feegingerly i handed the bar end weights over and the copy of drawing with dimentionsi also asked if they could machine the end of the bar weights as prev owner had dropped the bike and damaged same, got a call today about 2.00 pm to say they were ready to collectand was pleasently surprised to find what a good job they had done and chamfered both bar ends to tidy up the damage, So they were promptly fitted tonight and look well just magic...will try and post some pics total project cost £48.50 inc vat..cheers ajfergie...[/img][/img][/img][/img][/img]http://s217.photobuc...uardpics009.jpghttp://s217.photobuc...uardpics003.jpghttp://s217.photobuc...uardpics002.jpghttp://s217.photobuc...uardpics001.jpghttp://s217.photobuc...uardpics006.jpg

well I am sorry to hear of your woes sad.gif

my instructions were for the 900 origonally , however others have fitted them to the 850 and if i remember corectly the throttle side did have issues.

I had to bore out the sleave on the lever & drill out the threads at the bottom of the master cylinder but other than that no big issues.

Hi lads not complaining, cos i`m well pleased with results,
it all worked out in the end thanks again,
next job is to fit my heated grips,
can i wire them direct to the battery ?
and whats the best route to run the wiring?
cheers ajfergie..

Yes, you can wire them directly to the battery. But if you do so and forget to turn them off when you park the bike you will have to recharge the battery before you ride it again. I think some of the members here are regretting their choice of wiring.

I used the + feed to the horn to switch a relay with the power to the relay from the battery with an inline fuse.

Picked up the handguards from Crawley today, got the end weights machined around the corner (bloke wanted £5 but I gave him £10 - he'd stayed on to do them for me at short notice), and fitted it all together just now.

Cheers Hartside - thanks for taking the time to work out how to do it and share it with us.

Indeed - especially at 12:30 am this morning whizzing back from work around the M25 with my heated grips and new guards!

FWIW, I didn't need to chop or cut the guard on the throttle side - it's a snug fit to the hydraulic reservoir but fits fine nonetheless. I did need a bigger washer than provided for the underside though.

Suzuki have recently changed the part number and price for the guards.

The old number is 57300-27820-291 @ £20.50 + VAT

The new number is 57300-27822-291 @ £27.57 + VAT

By luck my dealer managed to inadvertently order using the old number (and price) and gave me a 10% discount. The parts themselves haven't changed so Suzuki still sent a box with the new number stamped on it. Confused? Everyone was! Didn't complain though. Means I've done Oxford grips and VStrom handguards for about £75 total - result!

Finally got round to doing mine, just in time for the cold weather. Many thanks Hartside. They look great, as if they were made for the TDM. A friend of my Dad's did the machining on the bar ends - cost me a cup of coffee. rolleyes.gif
