If you mean the black rubber cylinders with the brass insert, and you can find non-Yamaha ones that fit, you could be on to a winner - Halfords' ones for example are too small and Yammy ones are about £4 each! Or find a friendly dealer - mine thought it was a joke and discounted.

Took the bike out for a road test, without earplugs this time. And guess what? Significant noise reduction and wind pressure around the helmet! Increased wind pressure on my chest, though... And the bike felt more unstable, especially when cross-winds hit me and there's still some turbulence/buffeting when driving in traffic (driving behind cars, when overtaking traffic etc.).
But the wind noise reduction tempted me to keep the screen on the bike. But I did not, because I still think that MRA racing screen is the best option for me. It gives best protection against the wind and it hits me clean and steady most of the time.
It's also a matter of looks. I think that TDM looks better with MRA double bubble fitted:

I may experiment a little more, like making the curve deeper. But right now I'm going to give the screen "science" a little break for now and enjoy riding instead

A scoop like on my Sprint I guess?

Might be a good idea, best results on the lower screen though I think. I tried some huge holes in my tall and terrible Diversion screen, the screen was still too high (or low, depending), still terrible noisy with the turbulent boundary layer straight on the helmet. The short standard screen was much better.

Unless the screen is high enough, or wrapped round far enough to the turbulance happened PAST your body?
I guess, with any screen on we're going t o be pushing air out of the way, and there will always be the pressure difference behind the screen?
Did anyone experiment with the cutting holes/slots in the screen that was talked about a few months back?

I did exactly the same, when trying out Brian's 8mm modification.
Hunted every where, I could'nt believe it because I rememberd reading your post.
In the end I took the side panels off and it was in there. So much for spending an hour on my hands and knees looking on the floor.

Did the Brian mod, very fiddely, but it looks brilliant. Goin into work on it in a minute , so I will be able to report back.

Well, I kinda like the appearance of Laughing In A Windstorm's bike, shown in another thread here. And I can see that you're getting there with yours.
But I like to keep the fairings because they are vital parts of the TDM identity IMHO.
To strip it, replace the headlight and so on to transform it to a streetfighter/caferacer is not something that I would do...
To me this bike has enough streetfighter characteristics as it is. The only thing I'm gonna change is already done - new slipons and DB screen (until I find something that's better...).
And I can live with some wind pressure and turbulence to keep the bike as close to stock condition as long as possible. Modest modifications are OK, but rebuild it like you do...? Nope, don't think so,sir! Good luck, though., I'm convinced that you'll achieve what you set out to do - to create a damn good looking naked TDM lady with lots of unique character

Anyway, some screen mod experimenting is not a total waste of time. One might come up with a solution some time that could be useful for thos of us who prefer fairings and screen despite of the wind pressure/turbulence problems...

For me lifting the screen by 8mm on each of the screws so the gap was the same, caused a lot of buffeting, more than with the mod I had before.

Before I had approx 4mm at the nose and less up the sides. Thinking about, it acted like a funnel directing the air up the centre. So this time, I have kept the gap at the nose, but increased it to 6mm , then 3mm on the next pair and the nothing on the top. This should contain the air and smooth out buffeting at the top of the screen directly in front of the rider.
See how it goes..... ?

Yes i did try it with a ropey old screen i have, i drilled several holes in it (pics to follow) and i tink it made a positive difference, only way to tell is fer me to retry it as it is now and then put a strip of gaffa tape over the holes and see if i can really notice a difference.
