Took it for a ride to Bournemouth in glorious sunshine, temps about 18 c. Had a nice lunch near the beach. Resisted the temptation to dip my feet in the sea. White lined through the heavy holiday traffic on the way back.

Went for a pleasure ride down to Loomies Cafe, 1 hour and 15 min wait for a burger and cold chips, 10 quid! plus a free insult! third time foods been cold and an age to get, was not even that busy at the time.

 

Shan't be in a hurry to try that one out then.

Tried to start my bike 1st time this year - no luck. But I've never had a jucier battery! Cranked over for something that felt like 2 hrs. Will remove tank + float bowls today, to see what stuff has made it (or not!) into where lovely, clean petrol should be.

It took a long time to lock onto a satellite when I first installed it. I went for a20 minute ride and it was still searching. I plugged it in to my computer to update the database and after that it quickly locked onto a satellite and subsequently it finds one within a minute of starting up.

It seems to work ok. It certainly recognises all the cameras around here that I know about. I haven't been anywhere new since fitting it but I'm pretty sure it does what it's supposed to. I just have to hope I'm sufficiently aware of it in my peripheral vision if and when the time comes for it to be useful!

Don't think mine had been out of the garage since about September

 

Gave it half an hour on the optimate and it started first time  Oil and filter change sorted but still didn't get a chance to take it for a ride:(

 

Sadly the battery on the Mrs Divy seems to be fubar'd so new one on order then I can give it a service and get it MoT'd

I'm only half way there.   Got the swingarm, shock and both wheels cleaned and re-greased.

 

 

Still got the engine to clean and then I'll see if any of the bike is worth polishing.   Needs some new handlebars, handguards and grips but they can wait for now.

I finally took my TDM on a trip.  Only about 200 miles each leg, but the TDM handled it well.  I've definitely found my comfortable sport-tourer. 

 

Now I just need to talk myself into shelling out some money for a new rear shock.

Be aware if you go aftermarket that the Hagon one is longer than standard, so will raise the seat height by an inch or so.

Thanks for the heads up.  I had heard that about Hagon and it is already off my list (because of that and I guess the spring would be a bit much for my weight).  I am pretty much deciding between a YSS ($500 USD) and a basic Hyperpro ($650USD).  Although that recent post about getting the stock shock for just over $300USD has me wanting to go the cheap route.

 

I will most likely get the Hyperpro, and probably get new fork springs while I'm at it.  I just need to emotionally prepare myself for the expense!

Looks to be a bit on the large size from the photos, could you give the dimensions please, where did you manage to fit it...not sure I have room or may have to jiggle stuff around.

Fitted newly refurbished swinging arm and co. Test ridden for smiles. New centre stand does not impede progress therefore it can remain fitted.

Had a "minor" service on my model 2007 at 40000 km.

Valve adjust: 5 of 6 intake valves needed new pads, 6th intake and all exhaust were already in spec.

Compression pressure was just outside limit at 12.8 and 13.3 bar so I installed new pistons, rings, bolts, valve stem seals, cylinder & cylinderhead gaskets. Now the value reads 14.9 bar on both (when brand new it was 15.0 bar).

Balanced throttle bodies, was just sligtly off.

New spark plugs, air filter, engine oil, coolant.

Steering and swing bearings lubed.

Replaced fork seals and got new Ohlins 8 N/mm springs and #20 oil, no more 50 mm sag !

 

My new Ohlins S46PR1C1S rear shock is still in the mail, will install it next week.

I have always found the "compliant" sag to be a useful friend when burying the bike into a hard corner on the road.

I find road cornering to be compromised after fitting uprated springs and oil, so will be experimenting with oil weights and air gaps this summer.

I work on the basis that standard has worked best to my mind, so long as you can get your head around the brake dive.

Then if nothing else works I'm going to put the front end back to standard.

Guess you are on a 850 and I don't know what springs are std in their forks?

 

The 04- models come with a super soft progressive spring, first 82 mm has 5.4 N/mm, that's enduro bike 280 mm travel spring rates!

My front used to drop almost half it's travel just sitting on the damned thing, when accelerating and braking it was all over the place.

 

The 02-03 models, also with progressive springs is actually 23,2% harder than the 04- spring and exactly the same combined spring rate as the linear 8.0 Ohlins.

I think 8.0 N/mm is about right for a 150 mm travel front, to me it feels much more controlled yet still comfortable.

The air gap is extended from 127 mm to 140 mm going from the stock progressive to linear Ohlins, as per their recommendation.

I still have some moderate preload dialed in, need more miles to fine tune it. With old spring I used a lot of preload.

Have set dampening to 1 and not yet tried another setting, but It feels like I need to go to 2 or 3. I used to be at 3 or 4 all the time with old spring/oil.

Lifting the front with new springs is effectively changing the geometry, the raised front might make the bike less willing to corner, need to ride my favo roads to find out more if this is a new problem.

Then I might try to drop the forks a bit or raise the rear with the new Ohlins shock to compensate,

 

My superlight MT07 even come standard with 8.5 N/mm 130 mm travel, that is 13.3% harder than the stock 04- TDM spring.

Race bikes typically use 8 to 10.5 springs for their 120-130 mm fronts.
