Cheers guys. Fortunately for me, my bro has taken up welding again, so naturally I wanted to help him get his skills up to spec, hence the frame. 
Thought you would of pulled them apart with ya bare hands Studs
I defy anyone to do that with mk1 forks. 
Found quite a bit of crud on the big washers below the seals. 
Now, what paint to use ? I'm thinking of a light sanding then a primer/builder followed by paint and a clear lacquer.

Etching primer. Might end up using that stuff actually. Some chips on the forks are down to the metal so might well remove all the paint and start from scratch.

Another option would be to use Symoniz engine paint as it goes straight on to alloy but the colour choice is limited. Finish with a clear coat.

Pulled mine out by hand mucka 
Bigred mk1 R1 Calipers- Braided lines- Givi wing rack-Crash bungs- Hi vis bullets-PR2's- and a hoot to ride.

engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.
