Can you confirm the dates? Wednesday 18th out, Sunday 22nd return? I've just had a quote of £110 for LD Ferries, Portsmouth - LeHavre, single cabin out, sleeper return, 23:00 departure from Portsmouth, 8 hour crossing, 17:00 return 5 1/2 hour crossing. Always gone via Dover before and taken the hit on mileage the other side so it'll be an interesting comparison.

Ok.

Looking at the crossing based on last years sailing

Outbound: Wednesday 18th April @ 23:00 leaving Portsmouth, arriving 07:00 Thursday.

That gives us all day Thursday to travel down to the Guest House

Friday
Saturday and then Sunday to travel back to Le-Havre

Return: Sunday 22nd Leaving Le-Havre at 17:00 arriving Portsmouth @ 21:00

I fully understand that some of you will have a longer way to go than us Southerners so please let us know your thoughts

The price for this crossing is £50 return if I'm reading it right. I added a 4 berth cabin that was £102.50. Bringing the total to £152.50
That means we could split this and get a return crossing with bed outbound for £75.00.

We have booked beds in France for Thursday Friday and Saturday

I'll look at other ferry companies tomorrow

with 9 on the list, that would be 2* 4berths, the question has to be asked - who's sleeping on the floor for the outward journey? ohmy.gif Memories of the IOM night sailings come flooding back!
the odd one out has the option of a single cabin at around £50 IIRC.

Had a bit of a look, here's the options as I see it....

1. Tunnel, out 05:50 on Thursday 19th, return 18:50 on Sunday 22nd, £43, 569 miles

2. Portsmouth to Le-Harve, out Wednesday 18th 23:00 arrive 08:00, return Sunday 22nd 17:00 arrive 21:30, £50 no cabin, £75 cabin, 421 miles.

3. Portsmouth to Cherbourg, out Thursday 19th 09:00 arrive 13:00 fr, return Sunday 22nd 17:00 arrive 19:00 uk, £108, 375 miles.

4. Weymouth to Saint-Malo, out Thursday 19th 07:00 arrive 14:20 fr, return Sunday 22nd 14:00 arrive 19:15 uk, £120 recliner, 335 miles.

5. Portsmouth to Caen, out Thursday 19th 08:15 arrive 15:00 fr, return Sunday 22nd 17:30 arrive 10:15 uk, £118 recliner, 379 miles.

Options
1. Pluses, Cheapest, quickest crossing, flexible if late / early. Minuses, more road miles (2 + 148, 3 + 194, 4 + 234, 5 + 190)
2. Pluses, Second cheapest, can have a kip, less road miles. Minuses, Longest crossing, have to leave on Wednesday.
3. Pluses, Second shortest crossing (3 hours), even less road miles, no need for cabin. Minuses, quite expensive (£108).
4. Pluses, by far the least road miles (only 335 miles), don't need a cabin. Minuses, Still 6 hours on the ferry, bit further on UK side (for me), most expensive (£120).
5. Pluses, short miles on road, short UK leg, no need for cabin. Minuses, 7 hour crossing, second most expensive (£118).
