Just a kneejerk - wary, on your behalf, of potentially less-than-friendly elements watching. No matter.

Once you start watching a few clips you'll figure out you won't need TV for the next 50 years or so... (lots of crap on there too actually). BBC and the Dutch public channels will start saving all their programs on youtube and/or video.google.

Hey, you've hit on the answer to all the debate - 1) aim for the best upswept look, and 2) when you want to wear panniers, sling 'em below the exhausts. Sorted! banana.gif

Looks good.

Nah, just two rubber bands and a notepad. Stuff with an antenna can have an effect, even on digital equipment. But yeah, the policy is made very general to make it kinda idiot proof for everybody. Ok... I haven't decided which slip/bolt ons to go for yet. It will either be LASER Due-Tech Inox or STAINTUNE.

I've read many testimonials from happy Staintune customers, but testimonials on LASER is harder to find...

So if there are any LASER TDM'ers on this forum; care to share your experiences with me, be it good or bad...?

LASER looks cool...

Laser is very popular here, mostly because they were one of the cheaper brands (not true since Superpole anymore though). The sound I had from my Laser on the R1150GS was very raw, I didn't really like it that much. But it might be a lot better on the TDM. It was almost impossible (took me couple of days of hammering and stuff) to remove the removable db killer. Putting it back in after hearing that noise was almost as hard.

Still, the Superpole is a LOT cheaper than the Laser and of at least the same quality (in the case of the db killer construction the Superpole is much better). On top of that you have a lot more options in material, color, shape and length with Superpole. In the comparison review that was online (unfortunately isn't anymore) the Superpole damper gave the best performance and sound (which I believe also included Laser).

So far the Superpole thread on motor-forum is filled with positive claims on everything, even riders on the forum that replaced their aftermarket (laser) cans with superpoles. Even when I was there, a titanium laser duotech for a R1150R was lying there because someone just replaced it with a Superpole. The superpole sound is somehow just a lot better, less farty I guess.

Here's a pic from the motor-forum.nl (the main motor forum in Holland) of a TDM with titanium superpole:

Well, I like them better than Lasers and so do some others. Have no experience with staintune, they might be very good as well. Don't know how much they are, the only pics I've seen suggest they're very shiny though dry.gif .

I found some links for alternative can sources just in case, my experience is limited to the Dutch cans (Laser, Superpole) I guess:

Hey E-njoy,

I just went through the same list. It's not that easy to pick the "right" cans, is it...? wink.gif
You simply just can't look into every single make.
One have to make a choice between a few alternatives. And mine is still LASER and STAINTUNE...
Much because both looks good on TDM and because both makes does not interfere with original Yamaha panniers. Both have good specs as well and both makes have been in the business a while already...

And more thing; I received a good offer on LASER from a Norwegian distributor in England today (incl. all taxes, shipping etc.) which is approx. £350 lower than the price on the same LASER Duo-Tech in Sweden (the Scandinavian importer/distributor)! The prices in Sweden is usually always a great deal lower than here in Norway.

I think it's a good offer.

I am still interested in removing the stock cans and replace them with aftermarket slip-ons. But I'm a bit confused, to say the least, as to which make to choose.
FUEL, QUILL, STAINTUNE, LASER, BEOWULF, AKRAPOVIC etc., they all looks cool and seems to be of outstanding quality (at least according to the those who make and sell them...).

I'm waiting for an offer on LASER from a Norwegian importer. But then I checked LASERs website and from the pics of Laser fitted to a TDM the cans was raised up higher than the original cans. Which most likely means that it's impossible to fit the originial Yamaha panniers...
I am not going to use the panniers too often, but I will definitely fit them when I hit the road for longer trips. So I must have aftermarket exhaust that makes it possible to use the panniers.

So my question is: Which aftermarket cans would you recommend? I'm sure some of you have had the same problem...

AJ, I have the Staintune pipes which sound fantastic, have removable baffles and do not interfere with either my panniers or the centre stand.
2002 TDM900. BMW 1150gs handguards, Oxford heated grips, Staintune exhausts, airbox mod, re-moulded seat, bar risers, Powerlec adaptor, bluetooth, 2way comms, K & N filter, Nonfango hard luggage, center stand, polished alloy wheels, (I'm not gunna)crash knobs
