The S10 still looks the favorite to replace my TDM 900 when the time comes. ( Or possibly the 800 Tiger)

They will need toput a decent faring on it as well as making the seat and tail end a bit longer and a bit more substantial looking and no dangle berry number plate hanger. I still would prefer a Twin cylinder but a triple would be ok.

I've seen worse. They need to plump the seat up a bit for those big distances and go mad with the headlamps of course!

I'd rather have the existing 9'er with the forks and swinger off the mock up fock up.

The new bike that looks really promising is the new  Suzuki V-strom 1000.

I can't understand why there are so many objections to the new TDM - I think it looks good. I think the most likely

problem with it is that the tank will be too small and it will not have a good range. I won't be parting with my TDM 900 though

because I am  happy with it so what would be the point.

I like it too. But a TDM it is not. An MT-09f, it could be. Very nice too.

To me, the faired MT-09 seems brilliant, but still a few months, or years, off yet.

Going for monster adventure bikes that are never taken off road always seems a bit daft to me and very much style over substance job. (Range Rover look-a-likes started the trend from 43 years ago). This is probably because I am too scrawny to hold the things upright!

HOWEVER ... tomorrow morning I am going to see the 2014 Suzuki V-Strom 1000 "prototype",  along with the 2014 Kawasaki Z1000SX, with slim panniers fitted.

They are both at Millenium Motorcycles, St Helens  and I aim to be there first thing. Coffee and bacon butties in  their cafe if you fancy it.

I will then go to the Gym and watch NUFC against Liverpool on Sky TV which promises to be a much more chastening experience  :unsure2:

Let's all look forward to our next bikes ... whatever they are.

Pete

p.s. Meanwhile Paddy has shown there are still new examples of the real thing yet!

I'll stick with my 9'er. The crop of bikes with rear footpegs for orangutans rather than people amazes me. That thing looks more sport oriented and maybe someone at MCN playing silly buggers .............. again. I've no problems with a properly faired new TDM that has an appropriate screen as well as other ridding comfort for both rider and pillion. This thing has none of that. TBH if it's either that or nothing then IMO Yamaha should let the TDM RIP.

Is it not the point that the new sketched bikes are not called a TDM? Is that the sad fact that the TDM is propper discontinued and the new replacement will be a new configuration altogether, I guess we would all be pissed that the old model is not being revised or a new bike not being build based on it? Why do they throw away all that's been learned from the old bike, the parallel twin motor, standard format forks etc etc, I don't want inverted forks on my TDM as they are prone to collect crap and it's hard to fit gaiters, every week I rebuild inverted forks for these reasons! All the TDM needs is to take some owner feedback and build a new lighter, more touring orientated bike (not that the old ones not), luggage options as standard that make sence unlike side opening boxes like those fitted to the Multi, better airodynamics would be nice too...Ha Ha anyway not that I care I'm in on a new TDM so as long as I don't brake it I'm ok for a while.

What would people like?

Spoked wheels?, better placed exhaust?, better lights?, better fairing? Or in my case, it's fine as it is ;)

TDM now stands for Tragically Discontinued Motorcycle.

The write up on the MT09 in MCN wasn't very good - they hated the too sudden throttle response - sounds pretty awful - maybe when there is

a MT09 forum there will be loads of ideas about how to combat the jerkiness - I.e the equivalent of airflap mods, Dobeck TFIs etc.

They rated the Triumph Street Triple more highly because it doesn't have "ride by wire" and all those riding modes, traction control etc.

I don't really know who to believe . It seems to me that when someone has bought a bike they are inevitably going to say its great. It is unlikely that someone would pay £7000 for a bike and then admit that it had problems. The only thing is to have a test ride. The MT09 is probably a great bike but  like many riders, tank size and range are one of my priorities when choosing a bike. The 14 litre tank rules the MT09 out for me. I am surprised that Yamaha have brought out a bike with such a tiny tank.

Just come off a test ride of the MT this morning up at the Chestefield CMC. Already read all the supposed negatives about the jerky throttle... Bull shite! It had absolutely fine manners!! No issues at all and far smother than my TDM in the slow lane or fast. Went from B mode to A mode with a couple of minutes and stayed there happy as larry. Think Triumph have been handing out back handers to diss this triple! ;-) Great bike only let down by cramped knees n not so comfy seat (even tho it was the gel option) compared to my 9er's original. Had a big grin on me face arriving back at the shop. With the right bodywork and ergonomics combined with the triple would make a great alrounder.., (TDM replacement) even tho the power isn't quite on tap like my 9er but when it comes... its lotsa fun!
