Just pretend you didn't read it then. :P  It's prolly me being ott rather than it being a big problem tbh.  I wouldn't see it as being a problem if it was your carbs anyhoos.

Been promising myself a large ultrasonic cleaner for years but never got one.

Me too. Every time one comes up I either can't afford it or some bugga gets there first.

One of my neighbours has one at his unit......don't think he'd want a fortune to stick your carbs in it for a cleanup. Let me know if you want.

Yup, sounds just like mine did.  Is that when you found a load of resin type crapola in the float bowl Dave ?  What cured it ?

Hmmm, well, mine's not as bad as it was so maybe just needs a bit more riding to sort it out.  Cheers Dave. :good:

I'm sure you've tried basic stuff like Redex and changing air filter etc
Was amazed how much better mine ran at low revs / speed after this

Still got the carbs off the bike Sam, might get them bacon in a day or two to see if there's any improvement after cleaning them.

I've tried Redex Andy, it usually sorts out any spluttering but not this time unfortunately.  Have given the carbs another clean and blast with compressed air so hoping it'll be splutter free.

Don't larf but my old Marina van did that. The piston in the carb was oil dampened and it had too light an oil in it. Put thicker stuff in and the misfire disappeared. What dampens the TDM pistons?

I don't think it's oil damped like the SU carbs in your Marina, but rather a sealed air diaphragm with a small air passage which lets the air weep through slowly. The SU carbs had oil damping and no rubber diaphragm

The springs dont provide damping Studley. The SU carbs and the TDM's carbs both have springs, to force the slide/dashpot closed. Without damping it would slam shut, sSU used an oil filled damper tube and piston....the TDM's carbs restrict the speed which air can enter the cavity above the diaphragm by having a small air orifice - thats why when you push the slide open with a finger you can hear air being pumped
