TD here - just had a curry with furrycomfybum and we been nattering about routes
can do the usual route planning in the evening, but dont fink we'll have time on the ferry as its an 11pm sailing

our ferry gets into Le Harve at 0800, so we will already be fueled up with breaky and ready to rock the moment we hit French soil
so should get a decent full days riding in, i doubt we'll get much past Dijon but this looks like a decent route

what say ye folk?

Although a verynice curry, cumfybotom fluff was sick in his sleep at 5am. not well at all blink.gif

374 miles in day looks like a hell of a long way to me if the roads are at all interesting.

yep i agree, but the first part (50miles ish) just gets us away from the coast, next 100miles is reasonably following from what i can see
there are 2 foresty areas prior to the end of the route, one approx 50miles before and another about 120 so should be plenty of places to stay
are we camping the first night?
at this point i think its just the 4 of us (TD, cats, chrisg and saga)

Tony, are you taking your laptop and a copy of autoroute with you or do we want to buy a batch of maps between us? I'd still love to find a set of those lidl/aldi maps of France and Germany.

buying detailed maps of most of southern europe could be a pain laugh.gif
suggest we do like last time, 1 decent scale map covering europe which gives us a vague idea of direction to travel and then play 'join the squiggles' on autoroute or google maps/earth

was discussing the lappy thing with cats, one or t'other of us will have one with us
coz u and i have tomtom rider2s, cats has garmin and dunno bout steve
so we are likely to need tyre etc and somewhere to upload the video from miniDV cameras

i not done the goattrac thing on the 9er either, its only really been used for my commute
the most i've done was that trip back from jockland after we posted Tiff home

Do you want a copy of Autoroute? I usually plan on autoroute and then use ITNconverter to convert the file to an itinary file for my satnag. Means no internet connection needed unlike using ITNconverter or Tyre on their own.

If we're sticking together as a group are we going to cut down on duplicate kit a bit (eg cookers and pans) or is it worth all carrying or own if we split up for the return trip?

Well I have the Beer Tent. munching_out.gif

I will be taking my own kit in case we split. I've already done a test loading of the cases with them in. I do like the Tony Tesco Grill idea. Breakfast would be good on that.

Is there a way we can load mapping onto the Garmin?

i think its worth doing where possible, only thing is i'm not 100% if i'll be coming back with you guys, i'm not back at work until july4th
for instance 2 stoves between 3 is fine, but for 4 people 3stoves is better unless doing 1 pot cooking. I have my omnifuel, you have your whisperlite and i cats has one too
i've got a huge selection of that kind of kit and have been tasked with clearing out the loft now my sisters stuff is gone, so i'll probably find stuff i've forgotten

i'll have the usual spare levers and clutch cable etc under the seat (they are always tehre anyway), plus my usual tool roll and gaffa tape & cable ties
i have proper tyre mushroom kit and compressor (again thats also always with me), cats also has a compressor
at this rate saga is only gonna need a spare change of underwear laugh.gif

ps. dont think i have a current copy of autoroute, so yeh that'd be helpful

i think its worth doing where possible, only thing is i'm not 100% if i'll be coming back with you guys, i'm not back at work until july4th
for instance 2 stoves between 3 is fine, but for 4 people 3stoves is better unless doing 1 pot cooking.

Won't even need that if I go commando laugh.gif
Now on 9er number 2 .....

I would like to get into my head a little bit more detail on which country will be be in on what day.

IE; How many days in France before we hit Italy, I am going to be doing the Stelvio Pass, but then which country after that. How long in Italy. With the understanding that Tony will be Fleeced if he goes near the Swiss borders, are some of us going in or avoiding?
Are we going to be having a 'chill day' where we do no riding and relax or keep touring.

I'm not in panic mode here but want to start looking at google maps for places to see while were passing through

Also:
Tony
Chris
Steve
Myself

Who have I forgotton blink.gif
