If it's been looked after, & by your description, it has, it will be fine. There might be some replacement parts due on the final drive, & suspenders could be tired with that mileage, but there are plenty of independent specialists around these days who can do the job at a third of the price of main dealers. Engines are simple & bullet proof (derived from a ditch pump engine after all )
My old R80GS is being picked up today by a local bloke ot us who specialises in final drives - got a UJ on the way out - but the bike is 21 years old

Ta for that. Just one more question. Does a GS that old need to go back to a dealer to get the service indicator nocked off. Does it have a service indicator in fact?
It has newish Ohlins front & rear by the way

Can't speak for UK or elsewhere overseas, but I bought a 2003 for my cousin in Canada and he had to clear the service indicator before he could license it. So, yeah, a 2004 does have a service indicator. The canadian dealership totally ripped him off for that little business - charged him $500 (so might be worth you asking about prior).
And, I agree w/ SS, if the bike has been properly maintained 50k miles really isn't much for that engine.
BTW, 2004 was the last year of the 1150s and first year they used dual spark. Some people reckon it's the best year of the bike, but that's really a matter of taste. One thing for sure, that year was bomb proof design/build, generally speaking.
