"Returnee" because I brought an ex demo Mk1 back in the late 80's but got shot after a few months as I was still hankering after some GPZ900 action and to be quite honest the Mk1 was a bit of let down after all the "grown up holigans 350 power valve" hype in the biking press. Still, back in the fold now and I must admit the ride home from London to Spalding was a blast and I was grinning most of the way, the newer machine seems to handle and go a bit better I remember my old one did, but that might just be my 50 years playing tricks on me !!!!
I'll put some "then and now" photos in the gallery when I've finished.
Just a quick thanks to the forum members who offered me links and advise on sourcing a RH footrest assy earlier, job done now.
Look forward to hooking up with you all some time in the near future,
G.

Made a post back in october about buying a tdm850 but the deal fell through so been looking for one locally for a while and ive just got one today, Its 51 plate 850 36000 miles, mra screen, Hagon rear shock, Prog front springs,Predator exhaust, Heated grips.
Anyway real name is dave and i live in the Uk in the north of england and im 53 yrs young. Been riding bikes since 1975 on the road but took a 12 year break from 2000 until the start of this year. Bought a 600 teapot to get things rolling and soon swapped that for a Bandit 600 done a deal with that for cbr1000f which done me well for a few months but my body isnt cbr shape anymore and after remembering my first ride on tdm many years ago i thought thats what i need now' and im pleased to say my first ride today put a huge smile on me face, enjoyed it so much had a cup of tea then went back out for a ride around even though it was bloody freezing cold. Any way hope to learn a few things more about these bikes etc and ive have a question already, Feal silly asking this but i carnt find the dam petrol tap is it hidden away somewhere or im i going blind. cheers for any answers.

The late mk2 doesn't have a fuel tap at the side as it's got a leccy fuel pump. There is an on/off tap connected to the underside of the fuel tank for use when removing it though.
And yeah, as Graham says check the oil level at every opportunity, until you get an idea of how much it's using. Some burn a fair bit and others can get through a litre in less than 1000 miles.

Both sides of the fairing have been scuffed on the very outer edges (the curved grey sticker thingies) looks like it's been dropped on gravel or something as no other damage at all, unless thats why the previous owner changed the exhaust system, but first thing is to sort out the mechanical and tart up issues then get onto the fairing problem, as long as it goes, stops and looks half decent the fairing can wait.
Will need to sort the "hunting" on part throttle issue I've been reading about, seems to be an fly in the ointment jobbie with the TDM's, thought it was running out of fuel when I rode it home from London !
Did you have to do any body work repairs to your MK 2, or have you just looked at the prices of the decals ?
Plan is to have it ready for March/April as off to France in May 1/2 term !!
