OK guys, it's obviously getting close and you're all thinking about the trip. In answer to your questions:

You won't need towels. They are provided at the B&B, but I can't remember if they are provided on the ferry.

They don't have WIFI at the B&B. I have just checked with Ken.

Cash - You can work out your projected fuel costs yourself as it's about 200 miles to Reminiac. I would estimate 800 miles plus however far you are from Portsmouth. The balance payable at the B&B is EUR 89. You have to add on for lunches, Saturday evening meal and drinks.

We've elected not to have a ride out on Saturday or Sunday but I'm sure we will be spoiled for choice on where we want to go.

Restaurant is booked for Saturday night. I'm not sure of the cost but it's not the Ritz.

Finally, we are planning to ride to Caen on arrival in France to meet up with Pete and Claire who are on a different ferry. It's not far and we will probably take a short bit of motorway to get it out of the way.

If you have any other questions, just ask.

See you all soon.

Ali.

PS. If anyone else fancies a last minute trip, there are 3 places still available at the B&B as we have had some last minute cancellations. Would you believe that the ferry company are offering a return trip for £43. PM me if you're interested.

The Pegasus Bridge is near Caen if anyone fancies an additional detour to the detour?

I'm running through my checklist of stuff to sort; what additional (that the locals won't carry!) bits do you need to be legal? Spare bulb kit, high vis, etc?
We're all going to die, so let's be nice.

We need to arrange a meeting place in Caen to tie up with Pete and Claire. How about the Pegasus Memorial? We don't want to go into the centre of Caen and as you can see from the website, it's not much of a detour and easy for us to get to en-route from Le Havre.
I checked using Google Maps and it is 1 hour 20 mins using the peage (motorway with tolls) and only 4 minutes more on the N-route. Le Havre to Musee Memorial Pegasus.

As far as what to carry, apparently high vis jackets are not compulsory for motorbikes, so it's a matter of personal choice. I'll be taking one. I'm also taking spare bulbs. I replaced my headlight bulbs for Osram Nightbreakers so will take the old ones just in case. Will get the odd ones I don't have to make up the set.

Thats looks great Ali, although there's no need to make a big detour for us - we are off the ferry early morning so can meet up with you guys anywhere.

Will go with whatever everyone is happy with.

Many thanks

Good by me to use the National, the Peage is cheap and quick but deeply boring! We've got all day haven't we?

For those of you going, you may have already read this but it's quite a useful link, regarding riding in France. There is a useful bit of advice about the police at roundabouts.
Can't wait.

This arrived today. Not as small as the one Alain produced on the tinkering day, but is going to be handy.
More so for the big tour when beds need inflating. rolleyes.gif

Few questions:

Are we planning on meeting up in Portsmouth on Thursday evening to grab a meal before departure, is so where and when ?

Do we need to take spare bulbs ?

How many and who's actually going ? (my old brain cant work it out)

Would it be good to pass around a few mobile numbers (by PM) in case of incident or problems ?

Are we counting hours to departure yet ??

Cheers rolleyes.gif

Hi Darren,
It was on my list to to PM you all for mobile numbers and also to share cabin details. Just in case the person who booked the cabin, doesn't make it for any reason, the others will still get their bed. Will PM you all with the details tomorrow (Wednesday).

Bonjour monsieur aleeee geeee
tried to do the pm, but apparently, my input tabs don't match my output tabs doh!!!!!!!!. I was told to do something about it on the pm system, so I have, " I gave up".
I am working in swindon and will be leaving there about 6.00 pm thursday (if I can remember what day it is), recon to ride some lanes slowly to portsmouth, stopping to eat on route.
I used this ferry about 3yrs ago and if you get there early you are left outside the gates. (Mind you this was a december and it might be more active in april). Once inside there is a cafe. But if its raining it may be better to sit inside a cafe a couple of miles away, than stand outside the gate in the rain. (I shall bring some black electrical tape for the cunning plan)

Since Bobos has pointed out that the weather should be good, how about some of these for consideration.
