Pleased it by replacing knackered rear wheel / sprocket bearings on its friend the '96 CB500 so that they can again go for rides in the hot Norwegian summer

topped up the coolant expansion tank after it overheated, boiled the coolant and spat some of its guts out of the overflow when stuck in traffic at 30 degrees, why o why does the fan come on so late on these bikes
Sounds like the Radiator Cap - I hope they've gone down in price since I got mine

Yesterday and today was my valve check adventure . . .
All the body parts are off being painted. I had planned to take the forks off yesterday and change the fork oil, new front wheel bearings, and new headstock bearings. But I also wanted to re-paint the radiator support, so I figured I would check the valves since I have no idea if it had been done previously (37K miles). I was pretty much halfway there with the radiator support off, right? I'm guessing it hadn't been checked and two intake valves were tight. I was able to swap one shim over but needed the other so the job waited until today. I had left the gears on and the chain on the gears, but apparently it slipped at some point because now it was a tooth or two off and the engine had moved from TDC at some point. It got to the point that I had both cams out and I got it back to TDC - but unsure which cylinder was at TDC. 50-50 chance I guess! It seems I was lucky as it fired up fine. Took the opportunity to take a hose to the radiator fins as they were clogged with bugs and then replaced the coolant and synched the carbs.
Oh yeah, I still need to do the forks and bearings . . .

Well kind of today, tried out new Scala rider G9 with sat nav, all those years with no nav audio as I thought why bother just look, much safer way to nav around town maybe I can keep more of an eye on the road and the ever increasing number of nutters on the way to work!
Quick pic:-
And a pic of my eBay LED strip and LED reflectors, I have one at the top too, I wired a couple of diodes and a resistor to the stop and tail circuits so they run STOP/TAIL rather than just a tail light, looks cool at night and with my top box LED's too can see me for miles haha

Wanted to check my wheel bal after adding the big TPMS from Garmin, they clock in at 10g so wanted to see if it put the wheel out by much (ok ok so I know it would be 10g), anyway nothing really to see on the static test so left it as is.. happy days
TPMS = Tyre pressure monitoring system from Garmin, shown here on my 90deg valve.

Finally got to do the valve shims - 93,000kms = +9,000
All of them out by -0.25 to +0.10, only 1 could be reused. Ordered 9 shims on ebay, going for a vacation on tuesday & hope parts are in the mailbox when I get back.
One question, though: Will I notice any difference whatsoever, other than the good feeling of being a concious owner & appreciating the fact that cams & everything looked really fine? 2 inlet valves were at <0.05mm gaps, would maybe start leaking at operating temperature ?

Went for a ride to small, remote MOT station, mostly because the guy in my favorite local one is on vacation and to air out rain suit. Got massive amounts of almost tropical like rain, went through thunderstorm.
Time well spent, MOT done and got to see some old Russian iron the MOT guy has restored and rides, I did not know he is active biker. Rain suit aired? out.. at least it's not dusty anymore because of no use. Autumn is upon us
