I think it'd been done as there's a recall letter with the maintenance docs but the numbers have all but rubbed off the TPS so it's hard to say for sure.

I just need to double check it with another meter to be sure it's not a foible of my meter

Doesn't that suggest that all your other meter related investigations would otherwise be invalid too?

I have a bullet in my toolbox.

I'll lend it to you.

You need to bite it.

This is why I also suggested that you see if you could arrange a "swap out" with someone.

Time better spent fixing the motorcycle IMO rather than investigating multimeters and pointing at paperwork.

You could be right but I don't have the option to try another so I think it'd be prudent to verify the meter is ok today before paying out £100+ just to find my TPS was OK all along... That is unless your paying ;)

Can someone tell me what an 'Ignitor unit' is?....it's suggested in the manual as a possible fault

You dont have an ignitor on a 2004 model, but a combined ignitor/injection unit....actually an ECU....
It lives behind the left hand upper fairing....worth reseating the multiway plug connected to it

Relays are pretty sturdy, maybe you only blew the FI fuse ?

I refit the relay and the bike starts and runs so that's a bonus yet when I checked it for continuity it failed the first test.......my head's getting a bit battered by it all :unsure2:

Sounds like a faulty connector/spade on the relay, if not internally

So, I just metered the stater from the plug to the Regulator / Rectifier and got 0.4 ohms on all three but the book says 0.18 to 0.28ohms...question is could the difference between the book spec' and the actual readings be caused by taking the reading from the plug and not the stater itself?

I also did the spark gap test which should be min' 6mm but was easy 20 or 30mm which would seem ok but the spark was pink instead of blue....is that normal?

Measuring such a small resistance with anything other than a high performance meter is nigh on impossible.

Best test for a stator is with the engine running, set meter to read AC volts and check for a minimum 15v between every 2 of the three stator output wires, at idle

Right, checked the output voltage on the stater and got 20V for all three so appears to be no problems there but when I was looking at the cable routing pic in the workshop manual ('02 version as there's no '03 cable routing diagram in the '03 supplement) I noticed it showed a fourth relay under the tank (fuel injection system relay) that my bike ('03) doesn't have.

I'd already seen that the '03 supplement to the '02 manual showed a different, bigger connector for the starting circuit cut off relay when I tested it.

Question is have they incorporated both relays into the one unit?.........I ask 'cos when I did the check on this relay it failed the first test. I connected the battery as per the '03 supplement but got no continuity when I tested the circuit, yet the bike fires up no problem, to add to this, when I activate Diag tests 36 an' 37 I can hear the injection solenoids?
