Wow can't really see that but they'd a bugger if it is... Puller looks quite substantial.

Hmmmm an indestrucatool is required.

Is that a snapped puller leg ?  I'd send it back for a refund if it is mate.  Crap packaging eh, should still be useable though.  Are the camshaft bearings good ?

Yea camshaft bearings are fine, some of the shims are a 178 and 172 which suggest they may be original and an odd one with #7 in the middle, but where it's been dropped it pushed up the flat of the head so cam cover wont bolt down proper, assuming i can file it flat again and it'll be good !!

Here ya go mucka, either i'll have to take it in or chance a 5T hydraulic puller ?? Between work, pullers and weather this is really beginning to hold me up now.

Yeah, I reckon you'll be ok with repairing the damage, there's little or no pressure on the gasket where that is.  Looks to be in good nick where it matters. :good:

I used a plumbers gas torch for a good few minutes afore it popped off.  Ya might need more heat than hot water.

Had me heat gun onnit also at 450C so figured that was good and hot, maybe not.. wonder if the woodruff key is rusted, although everything else looks good.

Iffin you remember back in the post i metioned Red and Blue shim buckets, were they were all Red on cylinder head 1, on this cylinder head 2, all are Blue except for 2 exhaust buckets which are Red, think you may be right Studs in that one or t'other was preceded.

Been having a look at the head and it's interesting to see that 3 of the buckets dont want to sit in the bores without some encouragement, valves and springs are out, could be a difference in temp as they were stored in different rooms but i dont think that's the case, may need to trim the shoulders were they wont fit, luckily not on the cam bearing side..

Attached File  20190418_164415_LI.jpg   194.16KB   0 downloads

And the odd shim with #7 stamped in the middle, anyone seen these before ?

Any other markings on that shim? Seen a err few OEM shims and none with that marking. It might have a "1" to the left and another digit to the right "5" which have since worn off. Either way it ain't the font or size marking on any OEM shim I have seen.

On the buckets, I can dismantle and check buckets on a heed of it helps? Have never noticed/forgotten any red/blue code.

What's the plan on the puller?

Just number 7 stamped on is all i can see daps nowt either side, i'll measure it laters anyhoo.

Not worried about the buckets really, they are what came out okay,  was just pointing out the disparity and i guess they were working just fine before it all came off, plus i got some spares now, i may need a delicate hand on the edges just to have them sit in without a wallop.

The puller, crikey undecided at the moment, have messaged the seller re that broken one so if they replace i'll bung it on again, gonna buy a blow torch so i can throw some more heat at it, cant see why it would need so much tension to pull off, only other option is to spend around 70-100 splongs furra puller furra one time use....dont really want to take it in to the shop as prefer to get the fooker off on me own, specially as it's putting up a fight

That shim looks like a 175 to meeeeeeeee.  Get yerself to specsavers Cliff. :D  You have to be real careful fitting the buckets, if the angle is slightly out you end up digging into the sidewall and causing a notch, then makes it difficult to refit as it hangs on the notch.

I could see it cliff even on me phone. 😀

Often take pics and zoom is a good way of seeing worn markings.....as you may well discover when you git to the borrum end....colour code on side of crank burrings and numbers on the side of big end caps.

Fuggit.........that's the replacement chickenfoot bust an all, bloody thing was tensioned up quite nicely, applied heat directly for about 20 mins all in all while in between tweaking the tension gently and giving it a little tap, sod all happening and the last bit of tension the fooker bust again, same place and to boot the inside of me flywheel looks like a well used wok from our local chinese, bollocks, wot gives !!!!

Dont suppose i can split the cases with it on can i, dont think so.

Bit crispy eh :D  dont know wots going on with it, was plenty of tension (and heat) on the puller before it snapped, it's only gotta give a couple of mm's to come loose, prolly welded on now.

May contemplate cutting it off but that could be a bit dicey with an angle grinder in my hand.

I can only wish you good luck mate. WHEN you get the pesky varmint removed you may want the crank in Vee blocks and DTI checked :)

Have you considered having the puller under tension and a trip to either you local back street garage/fab shop for some fast heat from our old friend oxy-acetylene? Often domestic heat, via blowlamps, is soooo slow both get hot together and no gain is made.

It may be worth a shock in the wrong direction? I don't know if it is a straight key or woodruff, (I suspect the latter)- someone else may know for sure..

Hoping for the best outcome and seeing you back on the road sooner  :good:

Oooh another bottle of Chianti has arrived ta ta  4 now :drinks:
