I'm still researching my security options and browsing assorted painful deterrents smile.gif I'm not gonna post up what they'll be though fer obvious reasons.

Been looking at bolt croppers, for £100 you can buy a set that'll cut straight though 13mm High tensile and 19mm steel ! This is what I'm up against.

So, a combination of wood, metal, noise, lighting, nails, glass, razor blades and a sprinkling of novelty sprung-loaded chav-traps should do for starters.

I still think the best way to go is to prevent the thief from seeing the security one has in place, this way, they can't do a reccy and return tooled up at a later time.

Wish I could think of something original to say but many others have beaten me to it. Until our tosser politicians start standing up to the do-gooders and start imposing serious punishment for wrong-doers then things will only deteriorate more. I'm not the greatest fan of many things Muslim but its funny how this sort of thing doesn't happen in places like Saudi?

Once again, really sorry SR and hope you stick around and get back on two wheels soon
Now on 9er number 2 .....

High level 500 watt mounted PIR operated floodlight
Stebbel Magnum or similar linked to movement of the bike in some fashion
CCTV camera pointed at the subject.

Get some french windows put in and keep her in the house. Not that the TDM won't come through a normal door, the 9er does in winter, but it is too much of a pain for a daily exercise.

Got one of these and its very sturdy, nicely finished, confidence inspiring bit of kit and appears difficult to remove for someone who's not a nefarious thieving git, fairly loud and so far the batteries haven't failed after around 18mths, though I think they advise changing around 9months. Use this as one of a number of security devices without going so over the top can't be arsed to unlock her. Essentially cheap alarm, Xena on the front disk, chain and lock front wheel to the TDM and a hefty motorax lock through one of the rear sprocket holes locking the back end too.

Need to get a reliable ground anchor really tho.

I've got two of these. They might be alright if kept dry--I wouldn't know. If left out in all weather, they quickly corrode and the alarm won't work. Batteries don't last either and the alarm makes all sorts of annoying noises when this happens. I only use one as an alarm for when I'm travelling. I keep that under my seat.

Cheers Bob, very interesting. I've got a name or 3, if anyone wants to search facebook ?

I noticed the chavs used pneumatic bolt croppers so a chain aint gonna stop 'em. Not a problem as I've found summat a lot stronger smile.gif

When you think that all the chavs have to do is read the details about the chain and then they know they need a pneumatic device to break it.

Even though MCN and others couldn't break it with bolt croppers it doesn't give me any confidence in the chain.

Studley,
I have been thinking a lot about you and your misfortune. I have felt like discussing it with my friends and colleagues because I can't get my head around what happened to you. Two successful attempts to steal you bike in a month. On both occasions it is found within walking distance of your house. The bastards didn't really use it apparently. My conclusion is that the intention is to piss you off rather than steal you bike. It looks too personal.
Before buying a new bike and fitting lethal devices, don't you think that you seriously need to review your neighbourhood or go an make peace with whoever is pissed off with you?
I am fortunate enough to live in an area where you can wake up in the night and think "I'll wait for tomorrow morning to go and check if the garage door is locked". But without expecting the safety level of people on the 50s (when cars were not fitted with anything else but a push button to start) I can't believe that you have to accept it as the norm that you must baricade yourself. If you secure the bike, will they burn it in your garden next? There must be some things you can do with your local police or even with your neighbours?
I don't know if this helps but I sincerely wish you to find some solution which will not increase your justified bitterness...even if you have to move!
Ferni
