Probably a 4cyl 900? Singles and twins have usually been XT and MT. TDM was a one-off.

XS's were back in the days of my youth and I don't believe there has been an XS for many a year.

Exactly. So there'll be no replacement, only something with similar characteristcs. For me that means it got to be a big bore twin; grunty but also frugal; very reliable and easy to work on; smooth at speed with decent weather protection; upright riding position; comfortable. That will do it.

Maybe it'll be the S10's smaller brother without the bells and whistles.

I reckon it'll be a sports tourer with MT09 motor in it.

If it's a 1200 or a 1300 your looking for Ivan, you need to be visiting your BMW showroom, not Yamaha. hide.gif

There's no Fookin chance I would waste my time visiting a BM Fookin W showroom to discuss them taking my Fookin money.

If you think the Aluminum Square elitist fookin riders are up there own Arse. !!! You want to talk to the fookin Tw@ts who sell them pimp.gif

If you haven't got the integrity and honesty to be a traffic warden,
they give you a job selling BMW fookin tractors .. groucho.gif

Whats Ironic is that I get invites to Southport Superbikes when they Launch a new bike, and my mate who has a GS, Doesn't.

You see once they have your money, your trapped and you have to go back to them for expensive parts for your fookin reliable piece of German Technology.

They're just greedy, plain and simple fookin Greedy.

Ever thought what GS stands for ...... Greedy Sh!te !

PS ..

massive recall on BMW,s.......says it all......... Bavarian, motor ,wan...........er s.   most Parts cost a bank loan???     happy with my Yamaha

Some mags slate the 1200 tenure but nick sanders took one around the world with just a camcorder and no probes ( not with the back up Ewan and Charlie had!!!! )

MT-09 as new TDM.

I think its more realistic than going for 21"front wheel, pseudo knobblies and limited luggage capacity.

Decent power/weight/price/economy and proper wheels for the road ... what's not to like

Its what the lads on the Yamaha stand told me at the NEC show, hopefully introduced probably late summer/autumn this year, rather than later.

Bring it on

Pete

Not arguing about how good the MT 09 is going to be. I'm just saying that Yamaha are not replacing the TDM. I'd rather have a decent sports tourer with normal sized tyres, but there's not been one that matches the TDM in all areas. If the MT returns 60 mpg, is smooth and comfortable it'll certainly be worth looking at though.

As the TDM is now a dead budgie I've been looking for alternatives as a replacement.
Thought of a Super Tenere, Explorer and V-Strom. Then caught a review of a Versys 1000. Not found a bad review anywhere. Been on the forum and seem a crowd of happy people with no real problems. Bikes have good range and fuel consumption comparable with TDM, get great reviews for comfort and have a bit more poke than TDM.

Anyone ridden one or got a view?

Cant help as i have never ridden one, but their bloody fugly   the TDM is no beauty either though, have you had a look at the Crosstourer as an alternative, got a good look at one a few weeks ago and it appears to be extremely well put together, i like that you wont need to throw a big lump of metal on the back to carry your luggage as the load points are pre-built into the frame, think the highlander version gets you most of the goodies.....tough choice really, if your able to choose with your heart and not your wallet try them all and go spend....good luck.

One of my main criteria apart from price is range and the Crosstourer doesn't hack it. Plus it's not cheap on servicing and not really a DIY proposition.

Oh yes, i tend to forget about those things when window shopping, the cost of having the valves done is horrendous, and not something i would care to even attempt at home..

I had a good look at one at the Excel show and it looks very well built. I don't think it would be as economical as a TDM though. The new Super Tenere has had some major improvements but is pretty expensive. You can pick up the old model for quite a reasonable price and I think it has better off road ability. Also The Tenere has shaft drive and looks nice. I wonder what new versions of the MT-09 we can expect.

Fuel consumption is reported at consistently over 50mpg so on a par with TDM.
