Not at all, Muddy/Lee - just remarking on the similarities .........and besides, I do have one or two Yamahas
And there's a lot of comparison on here between Niners, Tracers & MT09's - and Triumph triples - so why have a go the minute BMW is mentioned ?

very interesting stuff indeed. It'll be interesting to see what the Tracer actually makes on the dyno and what new owners tink of it after a few thousand miles as regards to MPG, fuelling, handling cumfort etc. I do loike the look of it and a triple wood be noice but i won't be buying one as i still have me TDM and i'm poor.
spyball alarm/immob, bluespot brake calipers and Stainless hoses, Fournales air adjustable shock with Remote Resevoir, forks raised 10mm thru yokes, racetech linear fork springs in 15 wt oil, Kappa wingrack/luggage, heated grips, Kedo handguards, dual heat controller to power heated jacket liner and or pants!!, Stebel 136DB horn, K&N air filter, colour matched Baglux tank cover (magnetic tank bag modified to fit cover), osram +50% headloight bulbs, headlight protector,"NitramSpecial" parking loight, tail light indicators all running on LED's & incorporate "Lite Buddies", MK7 Scottoiler fitted, taller screen, 2-2 stainless steel CCC's, Devil stainless down pipes. MKI Renntec engine crash bars & sump guard.
engine changed july 2007 on a dyno run it made 79.1BHP / Torque 59.9Had a brief flirtation with a 1999 MKIIa but it blew an exaust valve on the M5 so was sold on to be repaired.
I loike tay and hang sangwiches !

it's because Ivan has trained us all carefully
To be honest there are no really bad bikes like in the old days that blew up and leaked oil all over the place.
I like to see the UkGSer's club from time to time out on their 80's airheads. I think the more complex the bikes become with canbus and the like, the less reliable they are. Not just bmw either. Triumph has had it's fair share of 'oh dear' moments to name one.

Strange nobody ever mentions the Tiger 1050 when these comparisons are made. To me, that is much more TDM like than the 800 Tigers. But I still wouldn't swap my TDM for one.
Posted 01 January 2015 - 12:41 pm
what he said. There seems to be a growing number of bikes of a similar remit to the TDM of late, the MT-09 Tracer, Ducati Multistrada, KTM 1050 BMW S1000RX and the others which is great for choice. But with the exception of a new TDM which I don't think we will ever see now, I think the TDM name is no more. The closest will probably be an MT-07 Tracer if you are still wanting the twin cylinder arrangement.
Me personally I like the looks of the MT-09 Tracer and it is on the short list as a possible replacement to my trusted TDM900 also in that short list is the Tiger 800 and the KTM 1050. So hopefully I will get to test ride them sometime soon. But before pulling the trigger on a new bike I will like to let someone beta test the flaws out of these new models.

IE a true replacement for our TDM 900?
I am disappointed with the 18L fuel tank - what the story with these small tanks?
In my opinion, small tanks are caused by some competition to produce ever lighter bikes. Now that it seems to be agreed that 'wet' weights are the way to go, small tanks are a consequence. And now that petrol stations are few and far between (in UK, anyway), the worry about running dry means filling up often and earlier than really necessary. Not a welcome turn of events, I'd say.
