I Think i have found the problem!  :drinks:

After a few comments on the youtube video i thought that i needed to double check my choke plungers. This is what i saw. The other one is much better but i also suspect the rubber gaskets from litetek, they are to chubby so they want to pop out.

So now im going to order new choke plungers!  :good:

Alright! New plungers fitted, and the popping/backfire where reduced. So I went out for a test ride, and now we have a new problem.

When i accelerate, the bike wont pull so hard that im used to. Its sound like its running to fat. If you just cruise you wont feel it, maximum throttle it feels weak and rough.

My local repair shop want around 500 EUR for the job. Thats about 1/4 of the whole bike. The guy at the shop said that i should put all the original part back to the carburettors and start from there. So I am now thinking of putting the original main jet back and resetting the float height to original. The problem is i wont remeber the float height, its now 15mm (factory pro method). But des anyone know if that is leaner och richer than original?

I would put the original sized main jets in there and reset the fuel level.

Probably better to measure the fuel level as there is a reference to the measurements required in the Haynes manual.  If you remove the carbs to set the fuel levels, remember to tilt the carbs at the same angle they would be when fitted to the bike before you take the measurements.

Have you fitted Factory Pro needles ?  If so, are they stepped ?  If they are, you might struggle with them.  They're really designed to work with a tuned engine.

3 turns out didnt solve anything, cant even tell if it got worse och better.

Im starting to wonder if the float height is to lean (15mm)? Because even if the bike is hot it will rev upp a lot, over 3000-4000 rpm if i pull out the choke maximum.

Here is a new video from today.

I hope its okay to post in your thread.

you mention  a couple of times float height - but 15mm is more like the Mk2 than the Mk1 which is 7.4-8.4mmAttached File  carb fuel height.jpg   60.24KB   0 downloads

or are you  measuring the floats with the bowls off?

For fuel level, there I!s often no casting on the carb as Heinz suggests.

For float height, make sure you are basing measUre off the correct float-----they are different! 15mm dont ring a bell either.

Think it's only the mk2a carbs that don't have a casting mark.  Seem to remember that 14mm was the float height.

Okey!

Now I have tried to read the fuel height by the Haynes book.

From what i understand the carburettors height is! Left 7.8mm Right 7.1 mm.

So the right one is slightly low, but not a disaster! Will double check with the engine runnin a little bit, just to make sure the bowls are full.

The Picture in the Haynes manual is not so accurate but it must be the line that crosses the round things in the bottom?

tumblr_osmaz7kWUX1rn2120o1_540.jpg

Next thing will be to try lower the main jet back to original.

I think there were diff markings even on mk1. And the marking that was on em did not match with Heinz pic or suggested heights. Remember was chatting about this with Dandy 10 odd years ago. he might remember more.

Set mine by float height. 13mm from rectangle float.

Hold your horses!

I found something! When I started the bike to fill the bowls the right carburettors needle wasn´t lifting when I pulled the throttle. I was probably to eager to try the bike when the choke plungers where installed that I din´t care about the diaphragms

to be in 100% right position (also changed needle clip position).

Now some food and then test ride!

Could also be because the carbs need balancing, if it's not the diaphragm.

Thank you for all the help! Its now running better than ever.    :good:  :clapping:  :pimp:

tumblr_osmn3fa4LS1rn2120o1_1280.jpg

The problem was!

First: worn choke plunger + that they didn´t fit perfect with the rubber gaskets. = the popping. New choke plungers, back with original rubber gaskets. = solved the popping.

Then I created a new problem by myself by not fitting the diaphragm on the right carburettor, so the bike was basicly running on one carburettor and just idle om the other.
