Just to explain ...

this followed from long, rambling, late evening discussion about film quotations ...

this one from "Treasure of Sierra Madre" used in "Blazing Saddles" ...

and others.

my favorite 'final duel' Lee van Cleef, the baddie gets his just desserts  :clapping: Saw this when I were a kid, saturday matinee at the Ritz, a shabby cinema in the 70's. Cost 12p to get in IIRC.

Made it home about 6:30pm yesterday. I had a terrific trip. Many thanks to Rob for setting this up, also thanks to Hartside Man for bringing us on two excellent ride-outs with terrific local knowledge, a great run through every nook and cranny of the Dales on sunday and another great trip around Lake Windamere on monday.

It was great to meet the old crew and also meet a few new contributors, so mission accomplished Rob!

The bunkhouse was great but the midges were horrendous, but i guess we can only blame the government on that. It was great to travel with my travel companions TeDeum and Paddy.

On the boat home we met a real live adventurer on his GS1150. Markus Muller http://www.kuhtravel.de/ has travelled all around the world on several bikes but has used the GS for the last 10 years since new. Now, we all slag these bikes off but to be fair he has gone places most of us will only ever dream about, never mind ride a fully loaded 1150cc motorcycle with a 45L tank there! He has done 310k km on this bike , yep, you read it right, 310k! Myself and Paddy chatted with him on the crossing and he was incredibly interesting. After a serious crash on a sports bike which has left him partially paralyzed he continued with his travels with a two year round the world among others. One trip included crossing the ice-road in Canada and camping overnight on the ice!! This guy is a serious hard-core traveler.

Anyway, I had a great trip overall but the hills would have been just piles of rock and clay, the bikes would have been just piles of mechanical wizardry and the beer would have been...well beer...but what makes these trips special is the people. It's terrific to hang out with a bunch of lads for the weekend with a common interest, each of them with their own private stories and personal battles going on, all living in the moment for that short time, enjoyed the corners, soaking up the view, supping the beer,oh, and swatting the midges.

Before the trip I asked that I get to have an English Pie, Rob made sure I got my pie and it was sitting on my tank waiting for me when I went to pack-up and leave on tuesday, fair play to ye Rob!

Have you ever lent someone 20 quid and never seen it again? It was probably worth it.

Long Loved TDM is no longer with me...
