I got some 850 coils from Wemoto, not what I'd call good quality though. EDIT: Sorry it wasn't Wemoto, I got these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200688101450
But, £15 versus oem £75 each was enough to sway me.

Excuse my ignorance Studders, but how do you determine whether they are good quality or not? I'm interested having just had a coil issue.

Nuff said. Classic case of a picture being worth a thousand words, but at the end of the day, I can understand why you bought them at £15 delivered. Presumably they are still working.

I am looking for some thing like what
they have here.
I sent them the information from the manual which is below. There reply was they do not have anything that would match.
Ignition coils
Model (manufacturer) JO226 (DENSO)
Minimum ignition spark gap 6 mm
Primary coil resistance 3.4 _ 4.6 Ω
Secondary coil resistance 10.4 _ 15.6 kΩ
When you look at the specs I am not suprized.
I can not understrand why there is so much variation in the coil resistance.
Any one got any answers

Those cheap coils should work fine... some epoxy on the exposed core laminations will stop an corrosion taking hold, Araldite 5 minute probably do the job.

I have one coil when hot it brakesdown, normaly happens after about an hours running. The bikes done 110,000 km so I thought I would get a new set.
When I priced them in Oz they were about $220 each but they did come with the HT lead. The Yamy ones are over priced so I was looking to see what else there was.

Ali, yes they work fine Unfortunately the spade connections are both the same size on the new coil as opposed to differing sizes on the oem coil. I managed to adjust the wirings side connectors to get them to fit, saved having to replace the connectors though.

I've got the same coils Studders has.
I got 1 set, which had issues, and turns out it was a build defect, and the ebay shop replaced them free of charge (didn't even ask for the old ones to RMA).
2nd set were better quality (still not OEM spec). Have taped the HT's and added an extra layer of epoxy at the top of the coil, and they've been fine & dandy since.

I ordered two of these today, hope they don't turn out to be total rubbish http://www.ebay.co.u...=item53f9d9cd2a
Does anybody know if the spark plug caps are easily removed from the old HT leads and then re attached to the new ones, are they expensive to buy new OEM or are there pattern alternatives, I cant find a lot of info.

Yes plug caps just "un-screw" from the HT lead.
While you've got them off it's a good time to dismantle the clip inside the engages with the top of the plug.
If you look down the cap you'll see a brass fitting, just use a flat blade screwdriver to undo and remove (3 or 4 bits if memory serves). Then you can give them a clean up, and ensure the contact area is nice and shiny.
Re-fit in reverse order.
There is a resistor inside there so don't forget that...

Problem solved for me now after fitting two new coils, cheap 850mkII pattern ones as above and the connections are in a different location to the 900 oem ones meaning only one mounting bolt holding each coil. Not sure how to fix this. Edit add link http://www.carpe-tdm...wtopic=27666

Their DC10-1 coils would probably work fine, but the packaging is likely all wrong... you'd have to bodgy it together... and, to be honest, you wont get any more magical performance output on the TDM for the huge price difference.
Those cheap coils should work fine... some epoxy on the exposed core laminations will stop an corrosion taking hold, Araldite 5 minute probably do the job.
Well I did some checking with a local shop and he can get a pair of DC10-1`s for under $200.
I checked again with Yamy and the price for One coil is now $189.
I think I know what I will be doing.

You should be able to get both bolts in - I had to "tweak" the offending connector so that I could get it in.

What? Asking one of us to send you the £20 pattern ones from Wemoto? Even with the postage, there is a helluva difference between $200 and £40.

That would be my move... but, I think, they'll post direct to AU. AND we don't pay any tax on the import.
