Rough outline of next summer ride out - about 4 out of 5 nights I'll be tenting - I'd say camping, but on this site........... ;)

Get juiced up..........

No pillion & or others.

Constructive comments please/places to stay/visit/eat/avoid/motorcycle events/rallies along the way. Planning to be away from middle of July to just before Aug bank holiday.

Cor blimey Favs, it's a whopper, been a long long time since i was down those areas and always in a truck, ya have to fit the transfangerrathingyroute in while in the local, Dracula's place is a bit naff imo but Brasov was a nice visit last i was there skiing in Piona Brasov, i would research the coast back up from Dubrovnik and see if that's a good alternative.

On the way back it looks like you want to do the Grossglockner but then i would head of to Berties garden (Berchtasgaden) and pick up the Alpenstrasse as far as Rosenheim to put you back on route, i would be inclined to follow the Alpinestrasse all the way to Lake Constance but looks like your heading for a meet up with splodge !

Journey out looks interesting fella, dont think you can go wrong really as it's all an adventure :good:

I'd fancy doing that - but the timing is wrong for me - we'll have a project handover then, so six weeks off biking wouldn't go down well with the boss

The transfagarasan should be encroute dabbers as curtea des arghhs is just after. tis a belter.

Trojan pass in Bulgaria is a goodn and might fit in with yer route. Prolly enjoyed that more for the roIding than the transfag.

Looks like a great route!

I'd wager there has been a lot of changes since we were there Dappers - 12 years ago and when we were there it was less than 12 years since their war. I wonder if the sminkeys are grandmothers now?

You can get cheap files at Odessa Favs.

UK foreign office are still advising against travel in the Crimean peninsula.  That doesn't necessarily mean it is a problem but I'd have a look on somewhere like the HUBB to find someone who's been there recently and knows what it's like.  I'd expect that border crossing to be a be a bit tricky.

That's a long old slog to Folkstone, is it worth getting the Newcastle Amsterdam ferry instead of the train?

Favs, are you travelling from Balaclava to Balaclava?

Wasnt there a Durham pit village called Balaclava named after the battle, which took place near to Sevastopol?

Route not set in stone  - particularly Crimea

Ta for the Trojan Pass suggestion Dapleb - looks great.

Dablik - yep going to do the Tranny Fags Highway again and see Splodge too.

Dandywarhol - Odessa files - hmm might find some bstrds & maybe get 3 squares a day :sorry: as for changes - hopefully a lot of the road surfaces have improved in the more easterly areas.

Chris G - I will be overnight in Farnborough  so not the Newcastle boat (maybe return journey).

Retro - yep in Co Durham - Balaclava gone now

Ta for the inputs so far folks.

Looks a good way to get to include a couple of bits of Eastern Europe before we all do the  "Brexit" ...   :(

Good luck for a great trip ... not sure where I'm headed for 2018, but last few years have been South, so heading East might be on the agenda.

Discussions ongoing ...

Hi Favs
I'd move the destination to Costanza.
It is beautiful by the sea, peaceful and there are acceptable hotels in Eforie, Neptune or Mangalia.
In Germany you only drive on highways. Germany is too beautiful to use the highway.
You drive through Poland, Poland is not beautiful, it's better to drive through the Czech Republic.
The way back to the Adriatic Sea, the coast is in such a way that you will never go wild.
Drive from Trieste via Bolzano to Merano. Stay in the south of Switzerland until Andermatt. Choose the direction of Biel and look for the river Doubs. From there you cross the Vosges.
In Dahn is a youth hostel, from there you follow your old route.
without stockings and shoes I can count up to twenty wonderful

Hi Limbo - thanks for your ideas.

I have been to Constanta -  although there were heavy machine gun positions and benches full of assault rifles/trucks full of soldiers on the promenade towards the docks. The little beach next to the breakwater certainly has some attractions & the casino building is spectacular.

True, Germany is a fantastic country and a favourite. The route will be decided day by day - there will be minimum autobahn.

I will look at the map from Trieste onward over Christmas.

Thanks.
