Just back from 11 days and 2147 miles in Alps/Dolomites.

A terrific tour and TDM was (for me) as good as anything out there ...

Pete

p.s. Spotted a couple of TDMs on Grossglockner and also on Stelvio

p.p.s. more pix going up on FB

Hi Pete

just got back from there myself. Did only see one green TDM on the Grande Ballon in Alsace. German. Was hoping for more but I never saw another rider from the UK either.

Did you notice the sheer number of GSs in the Dolomites and Austrian Alps? Epidemic jumps to mind.

We went on further down to Lake Garda. Totally different there. Not a single GS to be seen. Lots of Italian numbers there, mainly Monsters.

Best ride by the way was the road from Lake Garda to Lake Idro. 20 miles of twists and not a single straight bit of road. Then on the old pass back to Salo via Eno. Two old ladies told us about it. Not used by anybody but locals on foot. Too narrow in places for cars. Stunning.

Did you also notice how sweetly the TDM runs above 1500 meters? The Stelvio is a real pleasure.

Got pics too but have to work out how to add more than one yet. And won't take this one away from Pete.

Rob

I agree the GS's were out in force in Dolomites and Alps, but a lot of Multistradas about also seemed to indicate an affluent set of bikers down there.

What was striking was there were virtually NO sports bikes, even on the more sweepy (rather than hairpin) passes.

There were so many superb riding roads there I would like to go back... Gavia Pass was most dramatic and scary I thought

My Facebook page has more pictures on and will be updating more on a day by day basis.

If you post on yours and let us all on Carpe-TDM have a link that might do the trick ... I have used Photobucket in past but not so keen on layout ( adverts) now.

Facebook has become universal.

I do YouTube as well as you can create slideshows with soundtrack  as long term memento of these trips

Pete

( go to "more reply options" to add multi pictures on Carpe ...)

My brother in law used his Aprillia Falco. Terrible!!! No suspension and RAM air intake. Any of the passes were too high and starved the engine of air. Stalling in every corner! On top of Passo Giau his idle was at 2.8k!

Ok, this is embarrassing:

Haring up some more hairpin bends I breaked hard on a right hand one. I just saw another headlight in the mirror going past me. On accelerating away I was then overtaken on the outside by a boy in sandels, shorts and t-shirt,          on a scooter! Who the proceeded to overtake the Aprillia on the inside of the next corner. Shame I didn't have the camera running at the time. Another Rossi in the making.

Oh, and the only sports bikes on the passes were ridden by females in sparklingly clean, white , tight leather suits. No pics anymore. Censored by the filter at home.( may just have got a film clip somewhere!)

I never posted this on here as previous slides and home-made music don't seem that popular.

However it needs a wake-up on YT so here goes ...

Hope some may enjoy it anyway

Hey Pete

Your trip looked awesome.

Is this the year for the Alpine tour ? - we just booked Hull to Rotterdam for June 5th with the intention of heading down that way - two niners, a GS and a FJR

Any chance of being copied into that info ?

Cheers

Dan
