The Tramuntana range runs parallel to the north west coast of the island.  Roads into and out of the range are mostly good bike roads as is the route along it.  This is a half day excursion with cake stop.  Start at Inca and head north through Selva towards Lluc, then drop down to Soller for cake. You can then cross the Tramuntana via the tunnel to Palma or go over the top if you like hairpin bends.

The climb starts gently on good tarmac then winds through a steep valley with bends tightening as you climb and becoming more wooded.

Lots of blind bends

So be mindful of what might lie on the exit.

The junction to Sa Colobra by a Roman aquaduct.  A cul de sac road of hairpins with one of 360 degrees where you pass under the road you are riding.  Keep left unless you are a masochist.

Wow! What fantastic scenery and riding. Ma-10 looks like my sort of road :) Thanks for your post, it gives a very different impression of Mallorca than the stereotypical beach holiday venue that most folk would associate with the Island.

Timbo, I may have been up on the top when you were in the tunnel under.

Cycle racing is quite big here and the mountain roads are used for that. The tarmac on them gets special treatment.

Lovely route - only done it by cage though. Soller is one of my favourite Spanish semi-holiday villages

Home made. A 12V socket for boats which comes with a waterproof plug - trapped in place by the loop cable guide backed off then tightened to it. A phone mount with flexible stalk for cars that plugs into the 12v. A short USB cable. A silicone rubber extra security stretchy thing cut from the bottom of a silicone cake tin. When you park, just unplug and go. The app is Copilot.

Thanks for the thanks! Yes, there is more to Mallorca than you would expect.

Hi ! I remembered this thread yesterday when my girlfriend suggested a trip to Mallorca in April. I just wondered a few things:

- is April a good time for summerish weather and a few days on rented motorbikes ?

- The mentioned route in the northwest seems wonderful, but I'm a bit concerned with Our fear of heights - is it possible to avoid the feeling of having 20cm between you and a few hundred meters of void ?

Also, have you got an idea of what motorbike rental to use ? So far I've only seen one, in Palma (where we plan on staying), but we only stared yesterday.....

Hi Bjørge. April is good but it can rain and can be cool if wind is from the north.
There is rental in Palma and just outside that I have heard of but no experience 1st or 2nd hand.
Local driving standards are, ahem, local. Roundabouts, well...

Riding off cliff edges is not something I have heard as common - best to stop and look, not ride and look ;).

Found on Google and I know they have been around a while are;

Oh, we're not really afraid of falling off - it's more the general fear of heights that may make driving on narrow roads with no rails and tall drops too stressful to be pleasing  :P

Guess we'll have to test ride per Google Street wiew or smth...

Thanks for the tips !

We'll bring our Northern gear, I guess - no T-Shirt touring (which is no good idea anyway).

- Would you believe April (19th - 26th) is noticeably "out of motorbike season" (thinking of not ordering bikes in advance) ?

Thre days of motorbiking in Mallorca is finished - and I tell you guys - it's the best roads I've ever ridden ! First day a little miss on going alongside west coast from Palma, well - thought of having a soft start. My girlfriend is a relatively frest motorbikist, and driving a more challenging Ducati Scrambler made us (er, me) choose a presumably easy road - still a bit insecure about the twisted roads west/north.

It was a bad idea, and after a few coffees and a lot of blind roads we got back.

day 2 we got into the hairpins, and I really mean hairpins - maybe a hunred of them from Puigpunyent to Soller. Nice roads, great scenery, but really, really many hairpins. And cyklists - thousands ! All over the place ! No cars, no nothing but you, your bike and a swarm of sycklists.

And the paving is great ! Flawless, really. Well, back home again and prepare for day 3.

Started again in Soller, and the motorcycle road is from Soller to Pollenca ! Fantastic ! Great scenery, beautiful roads - the real essence of biking !

My girlfreiend gets tired from challenging roads, so I was happy to have these legs of challenging roads. The rest of the day we traversed the island and had a cuppa coffee in Porto Christo on the east side before we needed to deliver the bikes. On my way to the rental I really tride to chakllenge the town & highway traffic to get a feel for what the 700 Tracer was up to. More abiout that in another post  :)

It's really recommendable ! Mallorca roads are nearly as good as the best Norwegian ones, but beer, wine and food prices make them stand out. Not to mention weather ....
