Thanks Mick  for the pics. They are great and thanks for all the guys for turning up. We had a very successful fettling day with a lot of work done. Special thanks to Lee. At one point, he was jumping between three bikes, but everybody got their jobs done.
Ali

PS. Thanks to Martin for his pics. You posted them as I posted this mail.

We however, stood around and did not a lot.

Speak for yourself. Personally I managed to dispose of sausages, carrot cake, sponge cake, cherry cake, shortbread, and numerous cups of coffee :) Made it home just as dinner was going in the oven too.

Excellent hosting Ali, and as said I think more work happened in the first 5 minutes that we managed in a complete day at mine a couple of years back :D

What a day......... I think Lee enjoyed himself so much taking my camshafts out he decided to do it twice!!
A week ago I was too nervous to even take the side panels off my bike but after today I'm much more likely to tinker - thank God I'm unlikely to ever have to do the shims again though. The ride home was rewarding - shims updated, fast idle fixed and the old air box mod - it feels like a new bike.......
Thanks to Ali for hosting, Lee for mechanicking and every one else for tolerating me getting the lions share of the fettling...... ;-))
Now, just need to buy some decent tools........

PS . Loads of bling on the bike now too...... This could be addictive!
At risk of doing something exciting!

Big thanks to AliG for hosting a great event, great to meet you all.

A very special thanks to Matt who with very little help from me managed to do more jobs on my bike in a day than I would have done in a week!

Fork springs and oil upgraded, chain oiler fitted and working and sat nav power wired in and working.

Matt, thank you and I owe you a beer or two.

Looks like a good day out :) Who's is the brilliant tow ball vice idea? Mr.Hentys ? How much for a similar set up fella? I have the vice.

I made it from a Bak rac mount, a bit of 5mm plate and an old Landrover 110 jack plus a bit of 50mm RHS, The 3/4 sq bar in the jack drive hole with alloy handle was my own invention. I needed a decent vice on site in case drilling and helicoiling were required. The Bak Racs have been around for a few years.

http://www.bak-rak.com/uni-rak.htm

I bought mine from here, who have all the spares for them too. You want a UNI Rak.

http://www.wilmond.co.uk/bak-rak-en

You don't need the jack leg strictly as the mount is securely tightened with a 12mm bolt and is tested to 650 kg, but I found when working on it the vehicle suspension moved up and down, hence the adjustable jack leg to the ground to take out the play.

You have done a great Fettle-Day.
With so many engines with 10 valves, you could replace the Shimms very well with each other. :rotflmmfao:

It was repaired a lot. Each participant was able to see and learn. :good:  :good:  :good:

Determined there was more to experience than coffee, colas, cakes, pizza and the beautiful dog. :cake eating:

It's not too bad for stainless cap screws and normal stuff, but gets a tad wallet damaging if you want things like disc rotor bolts in high tensile stainless or   Ti 6Al-4V titanium alloy which is very spendy.
