As we did last year, Eccles and me'sen are doing a little extended biking after RTT. As with last year, the initial plan was the arctic circle, as with last year this changed many many times.

Anyways, we now think we have it licked (roughly):

Across to Italy, ferry to Greece (Patras) and then slowly work our way home, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania Hungary, Croatia, ......

If anyone wants to meet up along the way for a brew, or has recommendations of places we shouldn't miss, please lettuce snow.

Mom just got back from Istanbul, she liked it but didn't think she'd want to return because all of the crazy drivers (apparently really on the edge over there). I've always thought it'd be cool because of all the ancient history (they visited the site of Troy, I think, among others). But she said she was disappointed because so much new building going on (there's that old "overpopulation" thing rearing it's ugly head again). I'd like to see it before it gets paved over, but with my finances not bloody likely.

They love Italy and are considering buying a place in Paizano (sp).

I'd like to see Budapest, but never been there either.

When I was in Germany/Austria my two favorite places were Rotenburg and Salzburg. I was blessed with exceptional weather in March there.

That's about all I can recommend in Europe as I've yet to go more than the one time ...

Fil a Carpedian from Bulgaria just happens to have the last two weeks of July off, so hopefully we will get a chance to meet him for a beer and discuss decent routes.

Romania also sounds like a great place to visit. The Transfagarasan road and Olt Valley road are supposed to be fantastic. I am guessing the Transfagarasan is QUITE high......since the road doesnt open till June.....when the snow has melted!

Never really get much further than Eger which is about 2 hours/100 miles from Budapest. We tend to get there, get drunk, visit family, get drunk, sunbathe, get drunk, etc etc. laugh.gif
There is however, a fantastic road from Eger to Miskolc through Felsotarkany and the Bukk mountains. Also Blue Mountain which is the highest point in Hungary is supposed to be worth a visit, as is the Balaton region.
