I received the transalp, the condition is not bad. There are a few things I want to do on it.

- The centre stand is rusted , fancy a re-powder coat.

I WONDER HOW COMES THE STAND IS SO RUSTED? Would the same happen to the frame as the stand is there since new ?

- The pipes are soild but a new coat of high-temp paint would makes it looks good.

- A few odd marks on the plastics caused while stickers removal. Think the police does really care about the bike. They see it like selling their rubbish.

I am think to get a new set of battenberg like this:

Is it legal without actually having POLICE on it ?

I have seen these PSNI guys in real, they ride in pairs and like couriers in uniform

You should be OK, all you are doing is making the bike more easily visible, the Police don't have a copyright over that design. If its good enough for the Police to use for extra visibility then it should be good enough for us. If you put a slogan "I like the Police" on the side you may be pushing your luck a bit too far, but in theory even that should be OK.

The issue is whether you may be construed as imitating a Police vehicle; it doesn't matter if you are not intending to.. Without the text on it, it's unlikely to be a problem.

the highways agency use a similar livery on thier vehicles so claim you're impersonating one of them and you'll be fine.

I researched this recently and there is a Governmental statute that says that you can only have unusual retro reflective tape by special dispensation. If you wanted to put differnet couloured reflective tape on your bike then there are certain things to avoid (red on the side or front f'rinstance) I am toying with doing Battenburg squares on my handguards. The upshot of it is that if you don't take the piss then you can't be done with impersonation.
Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.

Done: Sold the TDM, now have a rather large ZZR1200 filling the gap where my TDM used to live.

To do: Keep my licence............

Got rid of that thing within 200 miles - talk about Blaaaaaaand. Got myself a rather nice KTM 660SMC in a fetching orange colour.....

I am still searching companies which already have a transalp battenberg template. The company I contacted before told me a large amount of the £430 actually contributed a lot to make a template. If they would have the template in hand then the price would be much less!

Spoke to the guy & he says as long as there are no blue lights, police logos, service numbers or you are dressed the same as a cop you should be ok. He did say you may get an over zelous newbie cop trying it on though.
What he did suggest is not to put the full battenberg livery on instead.
Hope this is off help!

There was no mention of yellow on the side which is pretty much the standard base on all the emergency services vehicles, so I think this already conforms. So if you where to do yellow and orange you should be OK. I also remember reading somewhere that as of a couple of years ago all recovery vehicles should have retro-reflective battenburg along there sides. So if asked show them you tool kit a tell them you are a mobile mechanic. good.gif

If you use that design i think you should have 'POLITE' on it rotflmmfao.gif

The whole legal/non legal discussion seems to hang on reflective materials. If you like the design why not make it in non reflective material? Especially the yellow can be made quite bright without actually being reflective.

I'm sure you'll still be noticed in traffic .
