oil and filter change

All starting to come back to me now, just how awkward it is to find screws on filter cover. Clean all surfaces and redo all with new filter. Then the real fun job of filling up with fresh oil. 3L in and bike gives big burp like a bottle fed baby. Great big dollop of oil all down front and side of engine. Oh yeah. now I remember. This happened last time as well.
Took me as long to clean up afterwards as to do the whole job. Same as last time.
Definitely look for some kind of nozzle thingy to do the job. No oil used since last change. Old oil fairly ok, think I'll filter it and use it in my Loobman.

It also helps to store the fresh oil in a warm place or even in front of the radiator, plenty of hours before changing it: It makes it noticeably thinner, so easier to pour and less chance for trapping air that can "spit" the oil back out.

Happened in my garage all the time - cos I always knocked the bottle over
Got to attempt a oil change on mine soon; coming up for 6 months.
Why do manufacturers have to sell oil in 4 litre bottles though??? It always used to be 5L didn't it?

Are you sure it wasn't your spillage?
If I remember correctly the Castrol bike-oil bottles were 4 litres already (sitting next to the Halfords 5 litres ones and still a quid more expensive).
Don't know about their car oil.

Fuel price keeps going up too - must be something to do with supply

Bought the 5 litres of semi-synth of oil from Halfords. £21 and 3 quid for a Champion filter.
Had some fun and games taking the filter cover off. Then when I put it back on, I saw the new filter still on the bench
Followed the instructions from the Yam manual. They were rather specific about the quantities, but in the end I did a Wicky and bunged 4 litres in.
Measured out the old oil into another empty bottle I had laying about, and in the 7 months I have had the bike it had burnt 150ml in 6000 miles.
SO.. thats a new shock, new coils, and new oil/filters this month. The bike has had more spent on it than I spent on Christmas presents....

I have actually spent bugger all apart from about £15 on Go Go juice
Cos I don't ride in ice or when it's below 5c (to many aching broken bones) anymore and I start work at 5am...
Glad to find someone else who uses halfords oil.

I've used it for years (mineral and semi) in all my Japanese bikes, it seems as good as anything else and more than 25% cheaper than Castrol's offerings

Bought the 5 litres of semi-synth of oil from Halfords. £21 and 3 quid for a Champion filter.
Same here, did mine today. I've not had to top the oil up in 18mths, 4500miles. This was Castrol semi synth.
I won't be buying castrol again, the car takes 4.5 litres.
Good job I got the Halfrauds 5ltr as I lost half a litre on the floor. I was pouring in my measured amount with a funnel, when I noticed an increasingly large puddle of oil on the ground. The oil tank had overflowed. I ran it 'till warm and then topped it up. I'll check it again after I've used it properly.
