I would imagine the headlight pattern on the 900 is better?  

 

 

Don't know, I haven't compared with a 850. But, the headlights on a 9'er are crap...

I got the night breakers in mine years ago and they certainly give out more light. Problem with my TDM headlights is the pattern is useless. 
I just got some driving lights and use them when I need too. They are angled down so shouldn't blind oncoming cars.

TBH I still have her, not sure what to do as so many GS owners regret selling theirs, but my annual milage barely justifies one bike, so a bit clueless here. Also just fitted new front tyre literally 200 metres on it.
