Happened to me on a test track in Aldershot in the mid 70's, nobody thought to tell the cavalry that there was an Autotest going on 
Or maybe they did 
Quite a surprise and an adrenalin moment to arrive at the exit of a corner, on opposite lock and staring down the barrel of an MBT coming towards us down the straight. 
The tank simply turned left and disappeared of into the woods and we weren't disturbed for the rest of the day, I think he must have been lost. 
Couldn't seem to get it together for the rest of the day.
