Whilst idly viewing a grainy video someone had posted of a clearly bitterly cold race meeting at Long Marston in 1983 I was surprised to find myself on my trusty blown Triumph flashing across the screen. I like to keep warm and never normally entered early or late race meetings. I checked my records and I had indeed turned out in October '83, completed one run, destroyed the clutch (which you can hear slipping like mad) and lacking spare plates had then packed up and gone home to sit by the fire and toast my crumpets.

I appear in the LH lane at 3'46" , fame at last! Those 500s always sounded sweet.

For the record I checked my notes and it was a 11.62 pass at a slowing 116 with 25% nitro.

:clapping: That must be an experience riding that kind of power. Acceleration must be fantastic.

Sounds awesome.

Yes those 500s always sounded bigger than they really were (apart from those that actually WERE bigger than they should have been!). On 75% nitro mine had a real crackle to the exhaust that has left me somewhat deaf now.

With you on the deafness bit - mine's from years of 2 stroke expansion chamber crackle and decades of masturbation - eyesight not too hot either  :punishment:
