Heating Oil Tank Isolation Valve
#1

Does anyone one know how to turn off an oil tank?
The white pipe is the feed to the house.
The weird knob thing does not turn. I suspect this should turn and is the isolator??
The only other option is to remove and plug the feed to the house which could get messy!
Any help appreciated.

I will have more of a dig if no one knows. Couldn't find this setup onlion and didn't want to make a potentially big mistake with exploratory investigations!!

The big knob should turn to isolate the supply, I think.

identical to our i'll tank PK, even down to the Hammerite green paint finish. The smaller knob is to be PULLED out and released several toimes to purge air out of the 'oil level indicator tube' (if fitted), there is a small ball that floats atop the oil within aforementioned level indicator tube. This will then give 'he' an indication on how much i'll is stihl in the thank. Oil pop oot and have a look now, BRB.

Its was very easy to free once I knew attempted turn would not cause oil devastation, no undue force required. Lots of clag fell form behind valve.. I can only guess that summat has pooped in the mechanism as my linky dink shows the internal workings of valve, so if it aint unscrewing from thread when circlip removed ... The thread must no longer be functioning!!
Need to remove tank.... So this could get messy fast. Only other option if valve pooped is to fit blanking plug where feed pipe currently joins ... Gulp!!
Just so ya know wicky apparently knob should be removed once a year to copper grease thread!!

when i unscrew me big knob it seems to have a left hand thread and moves inwards to apparently isolate the oil thank. Oi'm gunna try n' upload a pic from me mobile telling bone.
dare is also a sediment type of bowl at the base of this tap assembly which i assume needs cleaning out every few years or so. Looks loike a boike carb float bowl.

the knob above the white pipe just pulls out to allow fuel into the sight gauge so you can see the level of oil in the tank,it closes when you let go,
the larger knob on the end is the isolation valve

I don't think it would go up and down thread chief. Looks like the spindle would move to open or close the oilway, soooooo it could be working. Also says the knob will continue spinning once it's closed.

Strange, I clicked your link and ended up watching this vid, "Removing an oil valve handle" by Sciencejunk
