Check the cable at the lever end, I had a frayed cable inner and it was snagging/bunching up under the lever.

A new cable transformed mine when it got really heavy.

I've had a couple, probably low quality ones, where the inner liner has slipped up the cable and was jamming up one end inside the crimped cable end
