I've just bought a Panasonic TZ7 to take to oorop this year. If the weather picks up, I'll compare it to the DSLR, see if I can live with the difference. Main advantage is size, megapixels and zoom are the same. It can also take HD Video. Anyone got one of these, and do yo like it?
Cheers, Paul.

Of the camera or with the camera? I'd hate to be stuck in the twilight zone.

Megapixels doesn't really mean much - quality of lens and sensor are critical though - this is where a good DSLR will shine. No small point and shoot will come close to matching performance of a serious DSLR if picture quality (especially in low light) is the issue. That said, I carry my Lumix Z10 thingy just about everywhere because it's so damn light and small.

Agreed, it's not going to match the DSLR in low light, the Lumix range has (supposedly) Leica lenses, last one (FZ5) took good pictures as long as there was plenty of light. Just got back from a run to take some piccies, will post up soon.

Mums got a TZ (can't remember which one, but think it's a 5 or 6 - doesn't have HD vid).

Loves it. Takes good pictures, and has some sensible features, that are actually usable if you're a bit handy with a camera.

Only suggestion I have is get a 2nd battery - they tend to eat the battery quite quickly!

The main battery eater is the large display. So to save battery life, set the auto off to as short time as possible, and maybe also turn off the 'show picture taken' function. At least if you're running low and want to extend life a bit.

On my dlsr i almost never use the display, only once in a while for configuration. If i was to get a pocket camera i would seriously consider getting one with an optic viewfinder so i could shut off the screen.

I've had the same camera for 18 months Paul, very pleased with it. As dmmsta says, get a 2nd battery, got mine from here, a lot cheaper than OEM Panasonic and just as good.

Cheers all, I'm quite happy with it. I'll go for a spare battery. I was just a bit worried about taking my DSLR on such a long trip due to vibration. Also the amount of space it takes up. More room now for cake eating.gif
