If your getting the prompt at the bottom of your screen?........just leave the Bastid where it is  I've had no internet for 4 day's, as I lost my wi-fi driver when it updated itself (Yes and it's manual updates to start with) should have learned my lesson when I went from widows 8 to 8.1 I lost the use of my printer and a couple of other things and resorted back to 8 again, I love my laptop......but only when it works right!

It would work right all the time if you used Linux. 😄

I've done 5 PC's so far and not had a problem with one yet.

I never had any problems with 8 or 8.1 though either, and I quite liked the start menu.

Have you been able to find the driver online? you may be able to force a Win 8.1 driver on there for it.

If you've got an old 4 or 8gig USB or SD & USB adaptor, use UNetbootin or Universal USB installer you can create a bootable Linux OS that can run in RAM and 9.9/10 will load all the needed drivers automatically. I suggest Ubuntu as I know it well and it's rock solid and easy for a Linux newbie to navigate. At least that way you'll have a working PC or laptop when Windows is down. It's such an easy procedure, it really is and it'll give you a taste of how a slick, rock solid operating system can be. I'll happily give you some pointers to smooth the process.

No, some will work running under 'Wine' but most won't I have linux on a small USB stick that runs 'Puppy Linux' and has copies of all my documents on for when I am abroad, but at home run 'Gates grab it software' as all the routing programs will not run in linux, not surprisingly most if not all of them originate in the states.

There are usually Linux alternatives that you can download. Gimp is as good as Paintshop Pro and is free. IE (any flavour) are you kidding?

I can't complain so far about windows 10, went from a pirate version of 7 pro (had originally windows vista), machine now run faster, all drivers work great, all my files (and pirated software) run better than ever!  Not that I had problems before with 7, but the old laptop took ages to load windows, now does it in under 30 seconds. Thanks Bill  :drinks:

I'm running Ubuntu Mate 15.04 on a Thinkpad X201. Six seconds to boot...one second to shutdown.

Dual booting peppermint six on an ssd.
Can boot and be surfing the web in under ten seconds.
Win 7 still takes about thirty

I know!

I've just installed a complete copy of Windows Office circa '97. Shhhhhh! No quibbles.

My reliability graph has been pummeled to the dirt, with one random fault occurring each day, just so that the OS doesn't get cocky.

It's something different every other day.

I believe between MS and here, the system is being tweaked/tweaking itself over time, so have relaxed the "reporting back to Microsoft" options for the time being.

My laptop picked itself up off the floor after first installation. By day 15 it was back to normal.

Used Classic Windows Shell again, dumped most of the Windows Store apps, disabled or uninstalled tiles and hid the tile board.

Classic Windows Shell is STILL a must IMO.

Laptop 1  Bought new = OS Win.7 used for work & flinging across the bench whilst simultaneously cursing MS & Mr Gates

Laptop 2  Donated well used = OS Ubuntu 15 use - GP & entertainment - often connected to TV

Laptop 3  Bought used = OS Ubuntu 12 LTS use - in the shed - WS manuals for oily fingered shed based internet access/parts ordering and for providing music.

Tablet Bought new = Rooted on day of purchase, OS KitKat plus Rocket Tab Lite ROM from XDA http://forum.xda-dev...d.php?t=2507772, use - entertainment/sat nav/traveling & repository of WS manuals etc.

One OS endured for SW compatibility.

Single-handedly reviving the Wave.

Well, i got it to start a lot faster (bout 17 sec), by "sign out" of one drive, you still have it (can't get ride of) but to use it you have to sign in, it won't log you in every-time windows load

Still waiting for MS to tell my i'm ready for W10 - got impatient and did an upgrade using an ISO - didn't go well.

Back to W7 for now.

I was part of the beta testing group for W10 on the same PC, and it was fine (buggy but fine).
