Radical idea - Youth Hostel!
Ratagan has a great location (https://www.syha.org...ds/ratagan.aspx) but is not a castle. You can go round the corner to Eilean Donan (http://www.eileandonancastle.com/ - with details of their cottage) and pretend. Tour across the Glenelg ferry to Skye and circuit back via Eilean Donan and the terrific Five Sisters road.
Watch out for non-availability over winter.
Others here:- https://www.syha.org...re-to-stay.aspx
Unfortunately the SYHA's magnificent Carbisdale Castle is shut (http://en.wikipedia....rbisdale_Castle) but it was without a loch, being only on a river, the Kyle of Sutherland! Thanks for the input chaps. We ended up booking into a hotel overlooking Loch Ness (for May next year), which should be a nice base for a little touring.

Lol Alan. We will be going there, but not staying. We're just down the road at the Inch hotel. Looks a lovely area though. Not been to Scotland before, so really looking forward to it.
