... I notice from my TDM handbook that the recommended Yamaha tyre pressures vary with weight. 36/42 is the general figure, but lighter riders without luggage get a lower recommended figure on the TDM. ...

You must have a different handbook to me.

My bike is a 2008 ABS model registered in 2009, and the handbook I have is dated 2007.9 and has the number 2B0-28199-E2 on the cover.

The table on page 6-16 shows all weights to use 33psi front, with rear standard at 36 except for 90-198Kg at 42. The chainguard sticker - before it came off - said the same.

The 2007 Workshop Manual on JBX's site (in French) says the same too.

AFAIK the 2007 model bikes have the same suspension as mine, so the pressures should be the same for yours even if it is a 2007 build model. I've used 33/36 for everything for years, but I'm only 80Kg max. kitted up but can have a pannier load of 15Kg. No pillion. I've probably got a wee bit less than standard machine weight with the lighter 2into1 exhaust balancing the extras I have fitted.

I suggest you try 33/36.

I'm out today so I'll try the lower figure you suggest and see how it feels. I'll also look again at my figures and check my info. Thanks.

2008 TDM900 in beautiful black.  Fender extender, after market Bullster touring screen, radiator guard, RM-G crash bars, 12V/USB socket, Oxford heated grips, Bagster tank cover, centre stand, E22 Givi panniers, standard exhausts. Beautiful Acerbis hand guards. <p>2015 Honda Crosstourer Highlander dct. Fabulous bike, but getting heavier as I age. The 9er is its replacement, eventually.

I've always used 36/42, but for the life of me, I can't remember where I got that from.

2004 900 - Blue with lots of goodies

2012 900 - Still adding shiny bits. Was black, changed to white and now back to black again.

Maybe the older 2004 bike handbook. AFAIK those were the original pressures given - they appear in the 2002 Workshop Manual. They still appear in some tyre fitment guides, eg Metzler.

Michelin and other makers say "Use handbook pressures" or similar.

I assume the pressures changed when the suspension was modified - around 2005? - or after customer feedback.

I’ve always used 37/41

Why? Personal experience / preference?

I don't know of any recommendation for these pressures.

No idea, must have got it from someone at a fettle day long ago! But checking my manual (first time for everything!) it says 2.25 bar front (32.6 psi) and 2.9 bar rear (42 psi) maximum, looks like I need to take some air out of the front!

I've always stuck with the Fat Bastard settings of 36/42.  IIRC that's thats what the manual says for loads of 100kg+, not that I've read the manual for a few years..................

That's it. That's the setting I use - Fat Bastard. Even more appropriate after lockdown.

You all need to go on diets it's cheaper losing a kilo or two off your waistline than spending £££ in changing all your bolts to Titanium to save the same weight.
The Titanium bolts do look nice though.

Took it to bits to fit a Booster Plug. Measured the unit on bench first, it's a resistor bridge I think with a clever negative coefficient NTP to compensate for temperature as far as I can make out.
