Hi All

I'm about to pick up a 2000 TDM850 and have no prior experience of these, are there any bits I need to look at and what are the common issues with these, I believe they got better after 1999.

Thanks for any good pointers.

Dave.

Hi and welcome Dave.  Oil usage is prolly the main thing to keep an eye on.  Some use a bit of oil, some use a lot, and some use too much.  Check the oil level regularly until you can work out how much it uses.

Gearbox should be fine, it's generally the early mk1's that have 3rd gear issues.  Check rear lower shock mount is greased up properly, they can and do sieze and will snap off if they do.

Any good tuning mods I should know about? It already has a delkevic exhaust system.

Hi, welcome!

One I recently came across is the disconbection of two wires from the gearbox to the ecu, removing essentially a torque limit in 2nd and 3rd gear. Much smoother at low revs as well. Definite the best bang for buck tuning so far...

That sounds interesting, may have to look into that one.

Now have my new toy in my posession and had a couple of runs and love it, totally different ride to my fazer thou but more soul.

However did the get the nickname tedium? A great b road blaster!

The fazer is a great bit of kit and goes like feck but it's almost too smooth hence the lack of soul comment, especially with the ivans jet kit in the carbs, anyone wanna buy a fazer thou?

It's meant to be good for 160mph but I only managed to get 158 out of it....... (alledgedly) (on a private road of course)(lieing twat)

You can take a look here:
https://www.tdm-yama...ex.php?page=GID

The picture with: "Original circuit 4TX" shows a 3 pin connector, which is located under your fuel tank, in front of the frame bridge, under/in front of the fuel pump. I ordered some similar connectirs from ebay and constructed a piece if wiring in between. Essentially only still routing the neutral wire to the ecu.

I also read about it here, in German:

New here as well and looking at a 2002 TDM 900 as next project. This looks like a knowledgeable community.
