Is there any clear engineering/performance benefit to a twin having dual exhausts over a single on the 850?

Are single exhaust conversions only a weight saving exercise?

I doubt there's any overwhelming advantage to either.......just my view but for me any motorcycle with a single side exhaust is plain ucking fugly......apart from a single cylinder of course.

I think they are often a money saving exercise when the original rots out.

Also, the muffler volume is double, so technically there's more potential to dampen the sound without too much restriction.

I have to admit the first TDM I looked at was on twin pipes and sounded very sweet and was part of what convinced me to get one, the one I got has a 2-1 delkevic and I love the sound of that too, it has a nice little crackle on the overrun which is probably a bit of a leak at the link pipe but I like it so not about to 'fix' it.

My completely biased and unscientific view is that if Akrapovic don't make one then there probably isn't much benefit to be had.....and they don't make a 2 into 1  for the 900 :)  (as far as I know)

900 with better bits. Owes me nothing, Makes me smile

Tough question. My first TDM had a Predator 2 into 1. Pleasant sound and a big weight saving over standard, especially removing the plenum.

My current bike has a Kerker 2 into 2. Still pretty light but almost antisocially loud. Kerker don't seem to be into baffling, they are more or less straight through.

My bumometer reckons the Kerkers give better mid-range and bottom end over stock.

TDM 850 Loud and unusual. CRM 250r Woo hoo! DT 230 Lanza Fiddled with.... Bloody hell, is that legal? GG Randonee AKA "I didn't think that was possible".
