Well, back now - that's another TDM based 4 (5) day tour of the Scottish western highlands and islands (well, 2 TDM's and a GS1200 Beemer). Wow, what a place.... I just didn't realise what it was like up there.
We set off after work on Thursday and killed the motorway stretch - overnight stop at the Hamilton Holiday Express Inn and then on to Fort Wiliam. We took Charlietbirds advice and followed the A814 road along Loch Long. Good choice.
Saturday saw us over to the Isle of Skye and again took Charlies advice and took the military road and turntable ferry at Glenelg - even better choice! A tour of the Isle of Skye on Saturday with an overnight stay at the Makinnon Country House Hotel at Kyleakin c/w honesty bar (honest!).
Sunday was a fantastic ride to Applecross (unbelievable roads) and then we took the more northerly route (A890/A832) round Muir of Ord - Loch Ness - Fort Augustus and then another overnight at the Ben Nevis Hotel and Leisure Club at Fort William and a much welcomed dip in the pool and spa and sauna.
Monday was our biggest ride - 388.6 miles from Fort William - Oban - Inverary - ferry from Dunoon and keeping to the coast and bypassing Glasgow - Largs - Irvine - Ayr then the A76 to Dumfries and pickup the M6 at Carlisle then home to Wigan.
And the weather.... unbelievable - every day was glorious sunshine and warm as toast.
