I was planning to include Arran in a forthcoming Scotland trip

but I have been told that the roads are in a poor state at the moment with lots of pot holes and surface gravel.

Has any one been lately?

Hi

They were in a poor state in February but no worse than any other single track in Scotland. I would recommend you go for it.

I was expecting a comment about Merino wool being better...

TDM's are great on rubbish roads, go for it, and take lots of pictures!  I've still never made it to the west coast.  Don't forget to visit the distillery too.

CalMac do an Island Hopper ticket to help plan routes if you're thinking about doing more than one island. Used one to do Skye & the Outer Hebrides earlier in the year.

Thanks Andy 25
it was Tuesday I planning to camp there, coming up around the Galway coast.
I have enough of crappie roads in South Yorkshire and there are plenty of other places I haven't seen yet.

I'm guessing you meant the Galloway Coast ?
Never been down that way but the roads on the west coast of Scotland
that I have ridden are usually ok
Although the guy I mentioned is hoping that some of them have been resurfaced since his last visit two year's ago

Anyway I'm sure you will have a great time and enjoy some cracking scenery
You never know that big yellow thing may make an appearance
Enjoy

The west side roads are poorer condition - place is overrun with badly driven motorhomes in summer damaging the road edges.

Just go a bit slower and enjoy the wonderful scenery  :pimp:
