Fit a new one, peace of mind is everything. :)  Just ask Dabbers.

Yeah.

I'll book it in.  I just wish it had been paid for by the dealer given how much I've pumped into it!!

Sorry, I must have missed that bit - I hadn't realised it was under a used bike warranty. See if they'll go half with it for goodwill. For info, the noise usually happens on light throttle and deceleration when there is less load on the chain

Goodwill?! Youve not been to Estonia, I take it!

Just kidding, but lets just say there are still some very soviet views in customer service at times.

Ill be honest, the dealer made his position pretty clear. If Im gonna get it done under my own steam Id rather give my cash to the bikeshop round the corner from me.

Theyve looked after my TA before and are genuinely into their bikes: they make absolutely divine customs built around old air-head boxers, oil-heads, K series tripled and 4s as well as Guzzis.

Today I got my 9er back from the mechanics. The bill is due in my inbox and I’m expecting a big one. Probably around €700 but that includes around 300-320 in spares and consumables. So all in all, not too bad.

The camchain was not dead but certainly stretched so I’m glad that was done. The CCT is now replaced. The air filter was filthy but the spark plugs were ok. Both have been replaced.

The valves were fine.

The fork oil was done as were the head race bearings. They needed tightening rather than replacing.

So a big bill but I think we can say it won’t need more work beyond a regular service for some time.
