They could be a bad idea if they don't fit. 3VD forks are smaller diameter so you'd also need the top and bottom yokes and I dunno if mk1 yokes will fit a mk2 frame.

The construction of MkI forks are regarded a more sophisticated and better working one than the MkII's. Wouldn't bother about 2mms less diameter.
