done a rebuild on my 02 900 engine , head gasket was on way out so thought sod it why not , done the valves , stem seals etc etc all shims done to spec but during the process ppl moved my shim buckets and now there is a really annoying rattle on cylinder 2 , no its not cam chain checked that first , is there a specific place for each of the buckets or should they all be the same thickness ? and if they are different is there a size chart to use as a guide to where they should go ?  thanks

Did you do the clearances before or after the shim buckets were moved? If before, it’s possible that the buckets themselves are worn and have affected the clearances. You’ll probably have to re check the clearances, but you may find you now have one tight on and one loose. It’s possible the buckets have a little wear due to contact with the cam, so despite starting out the same, may have a degree of wear differences between each other.

Yeah as Trevini says, check again - I'd actually consider re-fitting back to where they came from.

The number one rule with anything in the head is to keep all the assemblies in their specific places. Vitaly important with valves etc, but even the buckets will have different amounts of wear affecting the clearances.

The fact you've shimmed to the correct thickness and then moved buckets will have thrown out the measurements you initially made by quite a bit. Hopefully nothing's affected too much, but the fact you now have a rattle could mean a valve isn't closing fully.

Shim buckets can be tricky as the sharp edges can dig into the head if they're not seated correctly.  Done this myself, think Dabbers might have done the same.  Sooo, I suggest checking the buckets slide properly.

Yep happened to me also, the buckets had different markings on them, brown or green if memory serves, kept mine in an egg box, no idea what the markings meant and research never revealed an answer, did'nt measure any different either, a mystery.
