Howdy all,

I'm looking at installing an auxiliary fuse box under the seat.  Going to use the rear light for the live for the relay and earth, and power direct from the battery with an inline 30A fuse.  There are a few good diagrams on here so I think i have the jist of it.  Just wondering can you connect to the cables under the seat rather than going straight to the battery terminals?

TIA

Ideally you want the main feed form the battery (via a fuse) as your initial plan.  Other approaches would work but are a bit sloppy in comparison.

I put a Nippy Normans fusebox behind the right hand side faring panel and switch it from the dipped headlight.  They're not cheap but include the relay and are way neater than my previous rats nest of wiring where I had it hooked up via terminal blocks.

Cheers Chris, yeah I would have thought direct to the battery was the first option but if it is possible to use the cables under the seat it is just more convenient as I want to put the fuses there and its also close to the rear light.

Surely that would be fine as well, those cables connected to the bolt and nut connectors are thick enough.

That's what I was thinking, I'm a bit of a novice at wiring though. Will be a bit of a rats nest approach.

You can keep your ratsnesting down to a minimum with something like this

https://www.ebay.co....PkAAMXQLbVRbWH0

They don't say Bosch on them so assume the terminals are a little bit under-rated, a bit thin, less transportation of electrons of the battery variety before warming/de-icing begins and who knows when that might lead.

I'm trying to get a sole importer deal with a Chinese auto-electronics firm but they're claiming I'm a bit disrespectful of their inability to take it seriously enough :)

Nice one! That looks the business. Do you know of anyone that's used one? Best of luck with that! Hard enough in English never mind Chinese.

I used the solenoid terminals on mine. your still connected straight to the battery

done 4k miles on it and no issues

That looks tidy. I probably spent a tenner on a fuse box and project box for the relays.

The problem with tapping in to existing wires though is how you tap in, you either need to make a custom plug and socket for an existing connector to let you spur off it, cut a wire to add an extra junction, or use a tap connector to splice in.  The former is a hassle and the latter two are a little shoddy in comparison.  Running off the battery just means a slightly longer cable and leaves all the existing wiring intact.  The switching wire takes so little current it's easy to just hook in to an existing plug somewhere.

I was going to attach the wires to the screws in the snapshot above. Just need to find the right size of connector. It appears to be the handiest place as the screws, where I want to put the fuse box, and the tail light for the switching wire are all in a line and would be accessible under the seat.

Ah, I thought you meant the white connector block, if you mean the screw terminal on the starter relay under that black cap then yes that's a decent place to connect to, providing you get the right side of the relay
