Me and the misses are hoping to get the bikes out tomorrow and travel to Bath. We won't be taking the major roads unless the forecast get worse and we go in the car, again.

Can anyone suggest some good roads we should take along the way?

Now, do I take the XT or the TDM

Well I took the TDM and it never missed a beat, not that I expected it to.

We went A143 to Bury St Edmunds, did a long boring A14 to the first Junction of the M6 off to Princethorpe. There we found the Fosse way, old roman road which goes from Exeter to Lincoln. This made up for the boring A14 bit so much that we came back the same way.

Some of the best roads are to be found along the original roman routes.

They're best traveled at night. (car obviously)

You get a real feeling of moving through ancient history as they only deviate for modern obstructions or natural obstacles and features.

My current favourite is the A30, A343, A354 or "Portway".

It bypasses the A303 "bypass" (lol), as quiet as you like at night, with plenty of barn owls and such like.

I wouldn't call it a real bikers road, not that I'd know what one is but we progressed well with great views at times. Wouldn't mind doing the whole length.

Q ninner jokes.

Good map and info.  :good:
